An Original Experiment: Febris
http://www.s151305233.onlinehome.us/febris.mp3
Sometimes it takes an external power to truly observe our human processes. For me, on an idle Wednesday, it was music. I created a simple pattern with a prepared guitar, and recorded the sounds of students walking to and from class with my microphones. I let their words and sounds dictate how I produced the final product. There are several interesting things in this recording to note:
The whistler: It’s as if he knew exactly what I was recording. He’s right on key and right on time. It’s almost eerie.
The laugh: I’m glad I caught a sincere laugh on tape.
The coughs: So typical of February, but again, I’m glad that I am able to successfully (and accurately) log the time.
Enrique: He threw a snowball at her twice today, but I can’t make out what she did in return.

This is really unique, creative, and powerful. What an interesting concept. I would love to hear more "experiments" like this!

Nice. I was just listening to Echoes (NPR) and this sounds like it would fit right in (that's a compliment).
I think with more of a progression throughout (more structured changes?) it would be great.

Indeed - I'm putting together an EP within the next few months, and I'm going to use this technique on it. However, it's going to be expanded. I'm going to include multiple instruments (not played by me this time, just arranged by me) and make the music more interactive with the sounds and a little more interesting. I guess I can look at this recording as a test.

Re: An Original Experiment: Febris
Very original idea and well-executed, especially for a first pass. One suggestion (not critique) I have is to arrange the "human processes" to abruptly stop when the melody moves from a strumming pattern to a single note pattern, and pick up again as the strumming resumes.
Looking forward to hearing more.
