Ryan Adams- How Do You Keep Love Alive Cover

Unread post by ut4ever8 » Thu Nov 08, 2007 6:06 pm

I think i figured out the converting. Anyways this is my first post, so be easy. I know the quality is poor, I just played into the mic on my laptop and used Audacity. Its all I have. But I want to start taking music a little more seriously and start playing open mic nights for fun. But I know my voice needs alot of work, so any real critique would be much appreciated. I love this song by the way, I hope I didn't butcher it too much.

Great song you chose to cover, my friend! :) Guitar playing is solid, voice needs a little work, but otherwise great job! Try slowing down when you are practicing and focus on each note that you are singing a bit more.

Peace,

I don't think this is the right key for you, you sound a bit strained on some of the high notes (like the "what does it mean" part).

Experiment with capoing it in a different spot, or tuning the guitar a half step down.

You sound like you are holding back a bit. Its a quieter song i know but it may help to step back from the mic a bit and tryin singing a bit louder

Search for a thread I made a while back about vocal help, there are some articles about breathing that you should read.

Also watch this video from letterman and just try to emulate his voice, specifically note how dynamic he is (high highs and low lows)

The performance of Pearls on a string that follows is good too because you can hear how he projects his voice out of necessity (the only have one microphone)

I like your guitar playing a lot, specifically how you are using individual notes within the chord to go along with the melody. That type of playing is great for solo stuff.

Good luck at the open mic, you will do fine
Do I listen to pop music because I'm miserable or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?
