P.S. the quality isnt that great, i dont know if that is due to the web cam device or what, so the performance probably isnt sounding all that great..anyway...peace.

I had to put good because the guitar sounded right on, but the quality of the dl wasn't great enough to judge your voice. So, I couldn't really tell if your voice was good or not.

overall, not bad. you really need to work on the main riff, though, it seems like you're hitting the bass slides way too hard, and not letting it blend together. voice was pretty good, you were on key and stuff.

waffle house jam....fair...hmmm, i dont think im all that great, but i think it deserved better than fair...but its your opinion so...plus, i think YOU might need to take another look at how dave plays it again, because all the people on the boards that have responded to me ALL say the guitar part "right on" but you...i have heard dave hit the bass slide just as hard as me, plus i wouldnt say that i am hitting "way" too hard...Maybe a little if anything at all, the loudness might be due to the quality of the recording or something, because i dont know what the hell you're talking about...Maybe if you know how to play it so well you can post "the right way" to give me a lesson or something, yeah? anyway, I do appreciate your opinion, however...thanks to everybody for rating, peace

Hey - good god waffle stop being so fucking anal. Yo ass so tight you could back up to a wall, and pop out a brick!!! :D

Man, this performance is better than great. It is outstanding!!! It stands out! If I didn't know any better, and you were to tell me that this was an early demo of Dave playing SMTS in his bedroom, recorded with a cheap cassette player, I would probably believe you.

Anyways, I had to go back and see what the hell you were whining about. I was focusing on that bass note as much as possible, and the only thing I could see you were talking about was the quality of the recording being shitty. Boomy in some parts or whatever. Which has nothing to do with the performance whatsoever, which you implied.

STOP THE MADNESS PEOPLE GIVE THIS BOY HIS PROPS. ALL OF YOU OUT THERE WHO WROTE GOOD OR FAIR SHOULD GROW UP AND STOP HATING ON A PLAYA LIKE JASON.

come on, it's a poll. And the guy asked for constructive criticism. I think you did a great job of the tune. the boomy bass is probably just the guitar and not how hard your playing. The guitar playin' is right on - well not exactly but someone else is always gonna sound a bit different than yourself. The singing is very good expect that I think if you sang with more....can't find the word....gusto maybe? feeling? I know its tough 'cause you gotta concentrate so hard on just singin' it while playing and not breakin' the rhythm. If the quality was better I could probably make a more accurate judgment.

peace,
Ken

critics

Unread post by neverkilladream » Mon Nov 18, 2002 1:07 am

seems we got a room full of critics. As a musician, i say this guy did a damn good job, thats not the easiest riff to sing over. and he pulled it off rather well, no matter what quality microphone he's got.

yea...oh well, I guess I shouldnt post anymore songs until i get a better mic...but thanks anyway neverkilladream/grave...so, I am really really confused...I really can't tell any difference in the riff between the way i play it and dave, honestly...for all the people who "know how to play it", please put in a clip so i can see what the hell you are talking about(grave, who said"not exactly", and especially waffle)...I will do another later on...lets say tripping billies, its a good cover, I'll do that one and get back to you all who are interested in another...peace

I'm interested in hearing more of your stuff. When I said not exactly I didn't mean that you weren't playing if perfect (I certaintly can't) but that it just sounds a tid bit different than it sounds when I play it, in general. And the way we play it, sounds a bit different than when my friends plays it. I think that's a good thing - that everyone puts there own texture to it (I dunno if texture is the right word) anyway, I look forward to hearing your Tripping Billies and I wish I had a mike so I could record my own. It'd be fun, I think.
peace,

it sounds good although the recording as you said really isn't great so it's hard to tell what you're doing with your vocals, but you're in tune. I think you're rhythm is just a hair off in the main riff part...just a touch too fast but that's about it, otherwise you're money.

edit...it looks like others noted what I did...I think maybe it's just you need to add a bit of muting in their and not be quite so hurried about it...when you go down to do that thing with the XXX555 then the slide, inbetween that and the slide I think you need a tad bit of hesitation/muted strum...something like that I think maybe...

it may sound too fast because, the way it sounds is how dave plays it on the (4-22-93) first dave and tim concert...but i have heard dave play it at different speeds...however, I as well do play it slower sometimes, like he does with he plays with the band....in my opinion he plays it slower with the band, and faster with just tim...what do you think?peace
