Two Jazz Standards- Blue Bossa, Impressions

Unread post by Cor » Tue May 01, 2007 2:55 pm

I played an open mic with a few guys and the place taped our songs.

here is two in a single long mp3 (sorry about that)

The first tune is a classic latin tune called "Blue Bossa" the second is another performance of one I've posted on here before called "Impressions." I'm particularly proud of the first tune. there's a meltdown at the end of impressions, no one knew how to end it.

I can only wonder how many replies this would have gotten had the title been "Stone Cover"...

first one was definitely better... there was a part in the second song where i felt like the bass and lead guitar were kind of clashing. to be honest i don't really listen to much jazz but i do enjoy it occasionally. i would have liked to hear the drums get after it a little more, i love jazz percussion. overall i enjoyed it. is blugroov the name of your band?

Yeah. the bass was way too high in the mix. It isn't really my combo per se, but some guys who I play with. The trumpet player, though, does call it Blugroov.

Thanks for listening, man.

Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": There are five different types of chairs in this hotel room.

Very cool. I really liked the solos on both tunes. I'm familiar with Blue Bossa, and play it time to time. There were some cool ideas in there.

This is sick... what are you playing?

Yes, the first song is the best...

I've been trying to get into jazz more... Been listening to Bitches brew... I definitely don't have the same ear for it as I do pop...

Can you point me to any good info on jazz theory?

Thanks,
