For the audiophiles.....

Unread post by m98ter » Mon Feb 12, 2007 3:52 pm

One of the last parts of my bands studio came in today, and I'm so freakin excited to start working with it.

We ended up with an Alesis 12 Channel Firewire mixer tracking into a brand new MacBook running Cubase...and we're going to monitor the mix and tracking with our Bose PA system (although it may color the mix a little)...I can't wait to try this stuff out!...And we should be shot for spending $5000 in the past month!

Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": As long as there's, you know, sex and drugs, I can do without the rock and roll.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo

If you have spent 5000 already do yourself a favor and spend 100-200 more on some good headphones to mix with. DO NOT MIX WITH A PA. They are meant to be played loud, but don't really sound all that good.

For 100 go for the AKG K240's
For 200 go for some Beyer Dynamics
Do I listen to pop music because I'm miserable or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?

well, actually I mix with about ten different sources....cheap headphones, cheap stereo's, the bose pa, computer speakers, new home theater speakers, decent headphones, and so on...I like to find the best possible sound between them all considering you never know what a songs going to sound like depending on what it's played on.

A good mix should have very little to do with what it's being played on as a final product.

Just my opinion of course but if you get a great mix and master on quality monitors or headphones it should sound good on just about anything.

If you mix with computer speakers for example, you will likely go wayyyy overboard on bass because computer speakers have a terrible frequency response in the low end. So when someone hears your product on something that has good bass response it's going to be unlistenable.
