Sitting Pretty
You see this girl she’s there sitting pretty
Her friends are anything that’s shiny
She lines her halls with silver walls
Her bed is cold with gold
She lies to you and says she’s happy
“What more could a girl want?”
She lights her fireplace with the push of a button
But it doesn’t warm her up
And there she is sitting pretty with nothing that she wants
So the girl went out to the country
Went shopping at the county store
She said “Excuse me shop keep, where’s the rest of the store”
Please tell me there is more
Now I don’t want to come off as desperate
This is something I usually ignore
But you see there’s something inside me that just ain’t right
And it leaves me wanting more”
And there she is sitting pretty looking for what she really wants
Her job isn’t listed in the classifieds
A position she regretfully undertook
She often stands behind billboard signs
Advertising “This is how you should look”
Everyone can see she is very trendy
Always hip to the latest craze
When it is all said and done
each one nothing more than a phase
And there she is sitting pretty doing whatever anybody else wants
Out of her purse flows a green ocean
She is the captain of her ship
The S.S. Sorrow is her namesake
It sinks a little more with each purchase
Although her sails are badly torn
“Seamstress may I please have these sewn?
And won’t you please use a bigger size
For around my neck this rope is tied”
And there she is sitting pretty trying on anything she wants
She’s always been slightly superstitious
Broken mirrors to her are lame
She doesn’t believe in bad luck no
She can just see herself in one less way
She puts a bible in her front window
Just for everyone to see
She keeps it in fine condition
You see it’s something she doesn’t read
And there she is sitting pretty letting herself be seen as she wants
Now I wouldn’t say she’s easy
But she gets around town I’m sure
“The more the merrier” cries her lonely heart
She says “I’ll give you anything you want”
Blindly men flock to her
Like moths to a summer light
It doesn’t matter to her if they even know her name
She just doesn’t want to be lonely tonight
And there she is sitting pretty trying on anyone she wants
Another late evening in the city
Where neon lights her nights
“Bartender please, just one more drink
I’m going home alone tonight”
He says, “Life shouldn’t be so lonely,
I’ll go with you if you’d like?”
She said “We all choose what we’re gonna do
And I must go home alone tonight
Yes, I’m going home alone tonight”
And there she is sitting pretty with her blood on a knife

I agree with everything said here. I like the concept (as I like storytelling music); the lyrics do need some rewriting, but keep with theme.
For a good take on a similar style, check out David Gray's cover of "Say Hello Wave Goodbye" (a Soft Cell original). He keeps you hooked for nine minutes straight because of his contrast of varying vocal hooks, a steady build-up from verse to verse with vocal harmonies and slightly varied approaches to similar verses, etc.

Stay with me, safe and ignorant.

- Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": As long as there's, you know, sex and drugs, I can do without the rock and roll.
