ME PLAYING "Dancing Nancies"

Unread post by winston » Thu Nov 14, 2002 5:55 pm

Hey Guys - Here is me playing "Dancing Nancies"

I recorded this today right after I got home from working out, so I am like sucking wind about half way through!!! LOL

TO NOTE:

If you are listening with Winamp, then please put some EQ on it, because it is completely dry. I just plugged my guitar in and sang it; then encoded to mp3. Here is the preset I use:

presets-load-preset-full bass & treble

PLEASE TURN ON THE EQ IN WINAMP AND LOAD THIS PRESET BEFORE LISTENING!!!

What kind of guitar you got winston? It sounds real good, what kind of electronics did you put it though to record it?

Hey - It's just a real cheap guitar. Called a Vantage. I paid about $250. I really like the way it sounds though. It is the first guitar I ever purchased.

I had a pickup installed in it about a year ago. It is a Fishman.

I run it through a 6 channel Behringer mixer. Cost less than $100

Then I route the mixer to the line-in on my soundcard. Which is a really shitty factory one, that makes this horrible muffled chopping sound. (Or maybe that is my shitty speakers doing that :D )

That's all there is; nothing fancy by any means. The mic I use is a Shure SM58, which is pretty standard in music.

THANKS SO MUCH FOR LISTENING. AND ANYONE ELSE WHO HAS LISTENED; PLEASE FEEL FREE TO GIVE COMMENTS GOOD OR BAD!!!

Hey - Thanks for listening. When you say the vocs sound strained, are you refering to when my voice breaks up and gets more rough sounding in between soft passages. Like it is cracking or something. I did that intentionally :D if so. That's me trying to put some soul into it ya know.

I went back and listened after reading your comments, and I started laughing because when viewing it from that standpoint: of the vocals being strained, sure enough it sounded like I was fucking up badly :D.

See, that is why it is so helpful to get feedback from others, because you never know how someone else is going to hear and interpret it!!!

Thanks again, the critique was very informative.

Yes, I agree on the guitar playin' part - It's right on, man. The singin' is better than I can do, probably, but maybe tryin' to sound like Dave too much.

peace,
Ken

What are you playing during the "Turn, turn we almost become dizzy" part?

Editted to add this:

its this part, right?

Code: Select all

E:----
B:----
G:-4--
D:-4--
A:-x--
E:-2--
only played kinda like this:

Code: Select all

E:----------------------
B:----------------------
G:-------------------4--
D:-------------4--4--4--
A:-------X--X--X--X--X--
E:-2--2--2--2--2--2--2--
that look about right?

Hey - Actually, I am playing this chord:

Code: Select all

------
------
--3---
--4---
--x---
--2---
...and the tabbing pattern you had is about right; with some palm muting.

Guitar playing is definately good. The singing is not so good, but I think it has potential. It doesn't sound like you are letting yourself go at all. It sounds almost formal. Like you're trying to sing in a voice that doesn't come naturally to you. Also, you also are enunciating (that is probaby horribly mis-spelled) some of your vowels like Dave which doesn't really work. Just let yourself go a little.
