New original "What Slipped Through"
This is something I threw together the other night real quick. It's a song I started like a year ago and just never got around to finishing. I finished it the other night. It's not the best recording I've ever done but It gets the job done with what I have. The vocals towards the end of the song were I'm kind of yelling sound really dead but it's the only thing I could do to not spike out the mic, the gain on these Mboxes jump quite a bit in terms of gain when you mess with louder stuff, I'll redue everything in the studio back when school starts... Anyway, this is sort of my take on liberalism and what I have seen in the two years of being at a liberal arts college. It's seems to me that change is the word and that many times people are willing to change things no matter what the cost. Somewere along the way we have become obsessed with how well we have been able to inflict changes in areas such as politics over the past few years and we've in a way it seems become addicted to change. Not always a bad thing, change can be a good thing but I think it is to the point were we have gone too far and are on the brink of destroying our past and the values that got us to were we are. Also, this liberalistic idea in the school system prides itself on being very excepting of preatty much any view, but in my opinion it seems to, for the most part, support newer views that are pushing for changes. Many ideas are frowned opon because they are old or outdated or something. Somewere along the way, something "slipped through" and is not as accepted as it use to be and is attacked many times. In my opinion now is the time that we need to take a step back and see what we've become and relize were we are going... Take a listen, thats my rant, let me know what you think. Like I said, I'm very disappointed with the way the lyrics sound, some of it is me so hopfully I'll have them nailed by the time I record it again.

I just need to rerecord it. I've been listening to a lot of jack johnson stuff to try to pick up on how they do it because this sort of song needs to be done that way, especially the way the do his voice.justinandimcool wrote:I listened to the whole thing, and I think you have a GREAT, above average voice. I'm going to be honest, I think this is the weakest material I've heard from you. Not because of the one-take quality, but because the piece as a whole is boring, overly monotonous drag. I had to turn it off about 4/5 of the way through because I really didn't like way you went with it. The guitar can be fine, but you just have to be careful when you're dealing with simple music like that. I'm not sure why you went with the whole drag-one-note-out verse, but it didn't work. And the lyrics sounded like a Jack Johnson ripoff.
Sorry. Perhaps a little harsh, but what's sugar coating it going to do.

nope, honest is good and i agree with you, this is the weekest thing I have done so far. I'm most likley going to go back and rewrite this song because I thought it might end up being good in a simple way (You really cant tell a lot of times when you are sitting around playing your stuff, listening to a recording really helps). It failed, and you are right... It's a start of something, but it needs to go somewere different somewere along the way. And I've been thinking of it more and more and I can make it so much better lyrically... Thanks for being honest, I could really care less to have a lot of people tell me my stuf is good, I put it on here for some critique and I really do appreciate it. If you think something is good and everyone else says it's shit that should say something. Fortunatly I think its for the most part shit so we are in agreeance. Back to the drawing board. I guess in retospect this was my Stand Up, lol...dmbguitar718 wrote:I'm going to be honest, I think this is the weakest material I've heard from you. i like the guitar riff. simple, but effective.
i've never been a fan of the "we didn't start the fire" lots of words in a verse approach, not that i can't enjoy a song that is written that way, just that it's not my cup of tea.
honestly, i like it. but i think it needs a real chorus. when you got to the first "take a step back w/ me" part i was begging for you to switch up to a chorus. maybe something w/ a different tempo or even a different time signature. something majorly intrusive to throw listeners off.
i like the little instrumental break. but after that you lose me. if you're going to wind back and scream your head off then cool, it would probably fit, but the louder whispering isn't cutting it. i saw when i was listening your last post that said something about this being your standup and back to the drawing board. i disagree w/ that. this song isn't a throwaway. it just needs some tweaking and it'll be a good song.
just my .02

my voice isnt that bad but this song dosn't show it in any way. Might as well have taken the William Shatner approach on this one and just say the words as opposed to "sing" themAppfro wrote:justinandimcool wrote:I listened to the whole thing, and I think you have a GREAT, above average voice. Ya on a scale of poor to amazing it's kind of sporadic and unorderly...Appfro wrote:no, i was laughing that he described your voice as GREAT, above average, really good and then amazingmattinbeloit wrote:my voice isnt that bad but this song dosn't show it in any way.
