Voice Lessons
Voice Lessons
How much do voice lessons help and what should I expect. I'm taking a voice lesson class next fall at school and was just curious.

Voice lessons help immensely. If you are shy, youre going to have to get over that real quick cause you will have to sing for your teacher right away. Its easier if its a private lesson, groups are a little scarier.
Do I listen to pop music because I'm miserable or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?

So we're talking $100 to $200 a month, depending on how often per week you go. I guess it's not bad, and I'm sure it would be worth it in the long run....perhaps.....I may look more into it...after I get back from Hawaiiglobex wrote:upwards of $25 an hour I'd say for private lessons. It really depends on who the teacher is.

you dont need a TON of lessons so dont look at the cost as its prohibitive, just really really practice what the teacher tells you. You are doing it right if you have a lot of questions when you come to your teacher.

Yeah, I don't sing for anybody, never have. I'm not looking to become a great singer, I just want to feel comfortable and actually know what I'm doing and be able to sit around and jam with some friends if I want to. And yes, luckily for me these will be private lessons, or otherwise I probably wouldn't take them.RunsWithBuffalo wrote:Voice lessons help immensely. It can be learned. Though, I'd imagine that, much like playing guitar, some people have a natural flair for it and it comes a lot easier for them. Me personally, I had to practice to get it to sound halfway decent. And I'm still working at it.ksutterley wrote:Is vibrato something that can be learned or taught, or is it just something that some people can or can't do biologically?

A few private lessons will help a lot. I had two lessons and my wife picked up on big improvement. Always a good sign when you get the unsolicited "that sounded good". Of course I practiced the breathing techniques all the time (car, singing, working out....) Just another instrument that you need to learn how to play.

is there a certain level you should be at to look into voice lessons? because im pretty sure i have the worst singing voice in the world, and i would love to be able sing in front of others as opposed to the mirror.
is there such a thing as being sooo bad that the lessons are pointless? because if there is, i would fall into that category

No such thing, take a lesson. A large part of singing is being comfortable hearing your own voice. When i first started, i cringed when i heard myself, now im fine listening to it. That makes me more comfortable singing and as a result i sing better.proudestmonkey41 wrote:is there a certain level you should be at to look into voice lessons? because im pretty sure i have the worst singing voice in the world, and i would love to be able sing in front of others as opposed to the mirror.
