Anyone want to do a new Dave cover contest?

A while back, I saw that you guys did a cover contest and new song contest. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to set another one of those up again. That was back in my lurking days. :D

I say lets do it.... lets make this contest original though...

We could:

All cover the same song

Choose one album as the song choices (example: only do songs from Crash)

Only do songs that the band has covered

lets make it a little less broad than a Dave Cover Contest....

anyone agree/have other thoughts?

I like this idea. I say we limit it to an album. I would get tired of listening to the same song over and over again. Plus, with a lot of talented players as I'm sure there are on the boards, it would be tough to distinguish who was better, and it would probably come down to who has the better voice.

Also, while I'm bringing that up, would this be strictly for the guitar playing, or singing also?

I like the idea of picking a song from one album. Like someone said earlier, that would rule out hearing the same song over and over and over again. I figured that this would be a full cover (guitar/vocals). My vocals aren't the best, but I would rather do a full cover than just instrumental. We have to decide what album to pick now. Glad you guys are interested.

I also think we should have limitations on what you use to record, since not everyone has fancy recording equipment and software.

I prppose all recordings must be done in one take, with no mixing.

I only use Audacity and a decent computer mic anyway so I think that's fair.

Maybe we could limit it to just Audacity and one take. Audacity if free and easy to use.

The only thing that I would like to be able to do is record the vocals and guitar seperately. You can do that in Audacity. Whatever you guys want to do. It seems like you guys want to do it all at one time, which I'm fine with too. I'll make a new thread for what album to pick. After we choose the album I'll post the rules and we'll get this contest started. We just need to get a couple more people.

The only reason I think it should be done as one take is because it is 10x easier to do it separately, and plus, most covers are only done live, and not recorded, so they HAVE to be done in one shot.

I agree. If we have to make it fair for those with no recording equipment lets just do it in one take no matter what program.
