Breathe (2 a.m.) Acoustic Demo

Unread post by FiveAfterForever » Sun Apr 23, 2006 11:13 am

Hey,

I'm a new member here and just found this site for recording and critiquing.. I posted this cover of Anna Nalick's on another site kind of like this but have not recieved quite as much feedback as songs posted on this site... this was recorded in one take and multi-tracked with a Line 6 Dl-4.. any feedback would be helpful.. we're wondering if this kind of music could stand a coffeehouse or some small venue like that.. thank you!

damn... its a girl

ok really good quality recording. the guitar is recorded beautifully although maybe a little less reverb next time its a little heavy.

the vocals sound fake and emotionless. get more into it you have a voice for sure

edit: CONFUSED AS HELL... its signed Eddy A... were these vocals a male?

Why, you gunna ask him out? :D

As far as the song goes, I would listen to this at a small venue or open mic. I though it sounded good. You have a very high voice Eddy. :D

DMBTabs, Welcome to it and keep posting.

That was beautiful. I actually really liked the vocals, the timbre of the voice is fantastic and it was on pitch the whole time. very well done. there were some times that it did seem to be lacking in emotion but it didnt detract a ton from the song. The guitar was also good and it is mixed well with vocals in front.

If you played this at a coffeeshop, i would definitely pull of a chair, very nice.

EDIT: I just got to the loop sampler outro, its pretty cool. I have a DL4 too and love it. A couple of things: First, the chopping sounds need to be louder. i think you are going for a drumming sound a la howie day so if you have and a preamp on your guitar, turn it up for that part, or use a volume pedal. Turn the guitar up for your solos too, remember when you loop sample it just like multi tracking on a computer but in real time so some parts need to be louder than others and each part should have its own "sonic space" otherwise they will all blend together.

I also think it would be really cool to give the singer a delay pedal hooked up to her mic so that she could bust out some haunting notes along with you.

I thought this song was recorded very well. Someone mentioned "too much" reverb but I thought it sounded nice in the beginning and throught the solos. I could undestand if the main rythym had reverb but it didn't, the reverb complimented the main guitar nicely. Nice vocals too.

Overall, The guitars sounded great, were mixed well and the voice was blended nicely.

I give you an A.

Hello again!

Wow.. I'm overwhelmed with the feedback! That's great, thank you all very much. I guess to cover the basic questions; I'm on guitar, my ex-girlfriend is on vox. The song was played a step higher than the original.. and the singer, well she was disappointed with her performance based on pretty much the same reasons suggested.. we're going to redo that one in the key of C and she's going to put harmony into it.. what was recorded would be what we could do live if given an opportunity.. again, thank you so much for the feedback.. we're looking to do a Dave cover... any suggestions?
