In My Time Of Need (Ryan Adams)

will you comfort me in my time of need
can you take away the pain of hurtful deeds
cause when we need it most
there's no rain at all
and the dust just settles right there on the field
will you say to me a little rain's gonna come
when the sky can't offer none to me
cause i will come for you
when my days are through
and i'll let your smile just off and carry me
cause when the calm comes down
i take the truck on into town
and buy whatever we can't seem to grow
i work these hands to bleed
cause i've got mouths to feed
and i got fifteen dollars hid above the stove
will you say to me a little rain's gonna come
when the sky can't offer none to me
cause i will come for you
when my days are through
and i'll let your smile just off and carry me
cause it ain't like it was
on back in those days
when everyone would offer up a hand
these old bones are worn
i've grown tiresome
and i know my time is surely gonna come
will you comfort me in my time of need
will you take away the pain and hurtful deeds
cause i will come for you
when my days are through
and i'll let your smile just off and carry me
lord we married young
and stayed where we came from
and gave those children everything we had
will you stay with me in my time of need
though it seems we had such little time for us
will you say to me a little rain's gonna come
when the sky can't offer none to me
cause i will come for you
when my days are through
and i'll let your smile just off and carry me

yes! i was waiting on another one from you
amazing guitar playing as always, same ole brian voice :) the only critique i have for it is maybe you should capo it a fret or two up. it just seemed a bit low for you, it didn't really show off your voice.

As a die hard Ryan Adams fan I can confidently say that you nailed this one. The guitar was dead on and your voice is great for this song. Very well done!

Thanks for posting it!

Very cool Brian.
Sorry I dont really have anything to critique cause it was good and I don't know the song but I can say that if you told me that you wrote the song, I would believe.
That means two things:
1. the lyrics sound heartfelt
2. you didn't try to sound like someone else

Good job

wow. All I can say is wow.

As a side note, where did you get the guitar tab that you used for this song? This was my first time hearing it, and I'd like to give it a try myself.

Again, great job.

Thanks.

As for the tab, I tried to find it on the internet, but I can't. I printed it out a long time ago, though, so I scanned it. It had some mistakes in it, which I fixed, so it's a little messy.

---

"When I was doing some recording in upstate New York there was this old man that was really interesting. And everyone in Woodstock, if you’ve ever been there, it’s like Santa’s Funky Village – everybody is fucked up, stoned or drunk, not in a bad way, but just naturally, good-hearted, fucked up people. I can identify with that. . . . I started to think about what it would be like if you were old, maybe 60 or 70 and spent your whole life supporting your kids and ran out of time for yourself and you were married and that was kind of hard. So it was nice, I took a little break to la-la land from all my 'Oh, Fuck Me' songs and wrote a 'Oh, Fuck This Guy' song." Ryan Adams, 02/13/00.

Thanks man.

During the verse, are you playing a certain pattern or just doing random fingerpicking variations?

You're welcome.

Just random fingerpicking variations. I'm sure there's a specific pattern, but I think that with a cover, you have to go with what's natural to some degree.
