home recording sound proffessional?
How would I get my home recordings to sound proffessional? Sort of like what that guy did with Lillywhite Sessions.
Right now I have Cakewalk Guitar Tracks Pro as my software. Can I use this to do it, or do I need something else?
My recordings are on my angelfire site at the bottom of my post if anyone has any specific suggestions on songs.

I cant get your files to play for some reason, its probably on my end but anyway, to get professional sounding recordings are hard if you are not in a studio. Cakewalk is a good program so there should be no issues there. Its all about having good input devices. What do you use to record and maybe we can offer some suggestions.
Do I listen to pop music because I'm miserable or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?

right now i use a small four channel mixer from radio shack hooked into my line in. I know i need a new mixer, so any suggestions. I also need a new mic.
Would those two things make that big of a difference?
BTW ill check the songs on my site.
Edit: Try right click save as. I couldnt get it to play by just clicking on it either. strange.

Alot of what that guy did involved expensive peices of hardware racks that he ran the sound files through. But if you are looking for a program that can do alot of that, look into Peak http://www.bias-inc.com/products/peakPro5/ . I use that when I record concerts for people and it is a great program. But keep in mind that you cant just take any recording and turn it into something professional, most of it has to do with the recording setup and all.

Recording direct to a mixer is never going to sound professional unless you are talking about a high quality studio mixer and even then. For acoustic guitar, mic'ing is the best way to go.guitardmb wrote:For where I am recording wouldnt recording into a mixer be more effective? So what would i hook the condenser mic into? Is there a special preamp of some sort or a mixer to hook it into or what?Trippin Hillbilly wrote:Recording direct to a mixer is never going to sound professional unless you are talking about a high quality studio mixer and even then. Everyone's suggestions and advice sounded good to me. A would also HIGHLY reccomend the rode nt-1, an excelent mic at the price. I use an NT-4 which is just 2 NT-1's in 1 mic setup in a stereo pattern and it kicks ass on guitar, I use it and a neumann km-184 for guitar and like it better then the neumann in alot of cases so please go for that before you go for that MLX.
