My 1st Recording- Grey Street

Unread post by Twostep420 » Sun Apr 09, 2006 1:54 pm

Please let me know what you think. Its my first time recording. I know its choppy in a few places...phrasing is of in a few places as well. Any feed back is appreciated. If anyone knows how to shrink the file size when exporting from garageband, please let me know. Thanks.

Ok. Figured out how to do it finally. Here is the song in much smaller mp3 format. Thanks for the feedback.

Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": As long as there's, you know, sex and drugs, I can do without the rock and roll.

First of all, that ultrashare thing is a pain in the ass. Make it easier on people and use yousendit or something.

Youre guitar playing is solid. You keep time very well and the notes sound good. Take the chorus off completely though. First problem, the chorus rate doesn't match the rhythm of the song and second, chorus sounds terrible on vocals because it brings it in and out of pitch. Instead use reverb echo or delay.

The repeat/delay effect on the vocals is not right, it repeats to often and very fast. Are you using pedals or internal software? I use delay a lot on my stuff so I can point you in the right direction but i need to know what youre working with.

I'm not sure what to say about youre voice because it is so altered by the chorus. I think its probably pretty decent, kinda mark knopfler sounding, but i would love to hear it just clean. There are some pitch problems but just listen and sing along with the original more.

Keep it up man and let us know if you have any questions, keep posting.
Do I listen to pop music because I'm miserable or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?

echo, echo, echo. Try it with less echo/reverb, whatever you have on there.

i think if you take off that echo, you'll have a very strong cover. i could tell that your work (of what i could hear from behind the ffects) was very good.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll try to do better with the effects next time. Sometimes less is more. Thanks again.

Peace,

Alex
