Dispatch Cover-Mayday (OH GOD Slimer sings again!!!)

Unread post by sunglassesatnight » Tue Apr 04, 2006 8:58 pm

I'd appreciate a listen from you all. I screwed up the guitar pretty noticably around 2:05, just got distracted, thought my computer was freezing.

I really like the way it sounds on headphones, you get the full effect of the image that way.

Critiques, particularly on the voice are more than welcome. I know I'm no Buckley.

Thanks all.

Not too bad. You need a bit of work hitting some of those notes those. What I would recommend is just practicing some of those notes by matching them with a piano or a guitar or whatever. Then try to match them without the assitance of an instrument.

I know your not confident in your voice but your too tenative durring the mayday part and a little after. You did fine on the guitar from what I could tell.

sounds like you need practice.

the guitar sounded decent, but you are trying way to hard on the 'mayday mayday mayday' part. You may be trying to hard to sound like the guy that actually sings this song.

but thanks for posting.

Thanks for the critiques guys. I haven't been seriously trying to sing for long now. I've come quite a ways though. I will take the first of my recordings to my grave.

I know my pitch control isn't too good. I am working on matching the pitch to my guitar, that's a really good suggestion.

the guitar sounds like its either recorded very poorly or played poorly, ill give you the benefit of the doubt and blame your recording setup.

as someone who has struggled with bad vocals and i think recently made a turn for the better, all i can say is BELT that shit, youre whispering and i did that for so long i cant even tell you. just BELT it, it makes it more obvious as to whether or not you can hit the note too.

keep at it slime

Praise, if you're talking about that grainy-type sound on the guitar, that's an effect I applied just sort of messing around. You can hear the original, unfiltered guitar on the left channel. That was me just fucking around.

youre singing like you're worried that someone in the other room will hear you. Belt that shit like you don't care! I hear a lot of potential in your voice but youre letting to much air out giving it a really breathy quality. Thats ok but it does make it harder to hit the high notes. If you can't belt it, try developing a falsetto to achieve the hard to hit pitches

Guitar playing was really good, I think ill learn that song now, cool riff and well executed except for the screw up (it happens). Keep workin on the voice and it will come.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I am definitely worried about my voice, I've got a serious self-concious thing going on with it, but it's progressing.

Buffalo, the song is impossibly easy, but I love it regardless.

I thought the "mayday mayday mayday" part was when your voice sounded the best actually, and the guitar was pretty spot on, good job man. try some other songs that fit your voice a little better and you could sound pretty damn good.
