My cover of Phunkdified

Unread post by cgalves » Sun Apr 02, 2006 11:10 pm

Long time no post ... I've been busy gettin some new recording equipment and toying around with it (the Tascam US-122 kicks ASS).

Anyways, I figured it was time for me to put out my cover of Phunkdified by Justin King. I've been working on the song for almost a year now on and off, and think I pulled it off decently.

Give it a listen here

And let me know what you guys think!

you rhythm is slightly shaky, when you move from the first to the second section, you lose the downbeat and seem to start the tempo from scratch

and you can barely hear the bass line during the third section. and there was one time when you hit the low D string that it went out of tune from hitting it so hard

alot of the slaps are indiscerable in the beginning
the finger slide in the second part isnt loud enough
the harmonic slap is not existent
the tapping part is pretty tightened up just crank it a little, dont hold back. (you def use a different tab than me for that pat by the way)
the flamenco strumming is really impressive, that took the longest for me

i can only be as critical as i am because its good. nice work man, but dont stop here, move onto knock on wood and trace bundy stuff.

Peace

Oh yea I definetley feel ya man, I hadn't played the song in a couple of months and wanted to bring it out as my first recorded peice. I'm definetley going to tighten everything up a little bit and record some more stuff. Thanks for the constructive criticism!

Thanks buddy, I appreciate the constructive criticism. Yea, most of the beginning harmonics are indiscerable, that was always the one thing I never could get right. Guess I'll just have to do slap harmonic exercises and tighten them up. I haven't played the song in a while, so I def am a bit rusty with it.

I think the big thing I have to focus on is my dynamics. I need to maintain a constant noise, etc. Anyone else>

I just started working on this song, and i must say this is a pretty good attempt. I wish I was were you are with this song. I like the faster versions of this song better (Larivee). But this is a great cover, keep up the good work, thanks for posting
