My first cover: I Feel Home

Unread post by dmb66 » Wed Jan 18, 2006 2:55 pm

Here is a you send it link to my first cover, O.A.R.'s "I Feel Home". I shouldn't say first cover, but this is my first one I recorded and actually liked on audacity. Everything was done on my laptop using audacity and my computer microphone. I appreciate any comments/suggestions for improvement. Thanks.

Nick

not a bad job at all. I can't listen to the whole thing, buts it not because of you, it's because I really don't like Ho A. R.

your voice is pretty good, man keep it up.

thanks for your input Kahn and tbillie41. Anybody else? I know it's got flaws but I would rather have someone else point them out?
Thanks.

Wow, your voice is very similiar to marc's, very nice. Actually i think yours is one of the best voices on the boards here.

The second guitar part is nice. My only critique is that the guitar isnt as clear as the vocals. Try recording separately. I also hear a little feedback in the recording.

Keep posting for sure!

Hey thanks man. I actually did record the guitar separately but for some reason it isn't as clear as it should be. That feedback sound you are hearing I have had problems with since I first tried recording. It shows up every time I press record in audacity, and I think it is due to electrical noise in my laptop or something, because it will show up even if I have no mic or input device plugged in and just hit record. Anyone ever have this problem/ know how to fix it. I'm sure if I knew the frequency I could cut it on the mixer but determining the frequency is gonna be tough.

I would try recording.org. It is a fantastic forum for home recording and they may have some tips on how to eliminate computer noise.

Your voice is outstanding...any training or natural skills (very much like lead singer from O.A.R)?
The guitar was good too...but the voice, wow good.

Well I'm not sure if you were asking if I ever had voice lessons. If you were, the answer is no. Never took lessons beyond being in chorus in elementary school. Basically I sang in the shower a lot and did a little reading on breathing, but I am far from technically correct in terms of form/breathing.

I really liked it... I added it to my music collection. Specifically I think the inflections in your voice give it character. Nice work.

Even though I have a few OAR songs I'd never actually heard this one. After listening to it I think I like your version better.

I'm not exactly sure what this problem is because it very well could be computer-specific in this case, but I've had the same problem with my computer. I realized that the problem stemmed from the computer having a built-in microphone that was causing the feedback through the speakers due to certain mic/speaker volume settings.

Once I turned the volume down on my speakers and turned the volume up on the microphone, everything was fine.

It just gets to be a pain in the butt to remember to turn the speaker volume back up once you try to listen to your recording. But you get used to it eventually.
