if you are looking for something cheap, just to record, then all you need is a computer mic which you can buy at electronic stores like circuit city, bestbuy. if you have a mic then you just need to get a comp program, there are programs you can download for free that will do the job.

if you are looking for something more professional, then thats a different story

New product coming out Winter 2005, looks promising. Comes with software and hardware. Starts at $129, $199 for model with phantom power and input meters. Right now i have a M-Audio Firewire Solo. works great, but i think i'm gonna try out the Toneport when it comes out.

I know im looking to record more professionally but i dont know what to do. I only have one of those crappy pc mics, and like you said that wont cut it for professional recording. I only have a acoustic guitar not acoustic-electric, and i want to record vocals too. any ideas on what to do?

I recommend buying a small mixer ($20-30) and run a cable from the mixer to the Line-In jack on the back of your computer.

That's what I do and I get pretty good quality recordings.
