ok i asked this in the random post thread and my question didn't get completely answered. ok i heard you can use itunes to do this but how? any help is appreciated. thanks.

I'm not sure how to do it with iTunes, but I know that you can download dbpoweramp and the applicable codec to go from .m4a to .mp3.

Preferences--> Importing-->"Import using Mp3 encoder"

Advanced-->convert selection to mp3.

Keep in mind you're compressing a compressed file so there will be quality issues.
