My voice gets a little better after I've been drinking, too. I think that it is for a couple of reasons. It definetly helps that you are a little "greased up" and some of you inhibitions have gone out the window, so you can really get into the song without worrying so much (at least I do) about what you sound like. However, I think the main thing for me is that my voice is so much smoothing after I drink a lot of anything. Whether its beer or water, a lot of liquid helps my vocals a lot.

yeah I have found that wine is really nice, two glasses will do the trick for me. Not a good idea to be too tankered. Warm ups are good. Have to try and not be lazy about warming up and drinking a couple drinks instead; especially to reach those higher notes.

My voice sounds better after I get out of the shower and have a glass of water. I think it's because the steam cleans everything up in your head.... I don't drink, though, so I couldn't agree nor disagree with what you suggested works. Eh.

there is defintely a sweet spot, I bet it has to do with being drunk enough to loosen up your throat and your inhibitions while still being sober enough to know when you're on key. :D

I have one book that recommends drinking a gallon of water per day...room temperature water. It has to be plain water because too much sugar will get the mucus going and it can't be to hot or too cold cause that shock the chords.

And yes, alcohol is just behind cigerettes in the list of bad things for your voice.

I have yet to follow any of this advice though. :)

Dave smokes. I also notice that when i smoke (i don't everyday) but when i do, my voice gets a little raspiness to it. Sounds kinda cool. Of, course I'm 28 now and it seems that was a magical age for me, my voice dropped again... I can get pretty low now, almost a low C. Also, i've noticed that this happens late at night too. I turn in to Johnny Cash after 1 am.
