my TB contest entry
You can listen to my Tripping Billies at:

it's number 4 on the list. The singing isn't great but I had fun with it none the less. The mix isn't terribly great on the vocals. This is all.

i thought it was excellent
the vocals werent bad, but there is practice needed
but its not like i dont need practice either
i sensed a few timing mistakes in the intro but everything sounded great overall
its good that you expressed yourself with random yelps and hoops like dave does, i wish i had the confidence to do that
well, now that i critiqued yours, shouldnt you be critiquing mine? (im desperate for feedback)

Everybody always asks me how she's doing. Has she really lost her mind? I said "I couldn't tell you, I've lost mine."

Hey Greg, here's my feedback. Don't worry about being a choir geek, I'm kinda one too. Right now in choir we are doing Faure's Requiem. OOOHHHHH MMMYYYYYYYY LLLLLOOOOOORRRRRRRDDDDDDDD what a piece of music. I've done a lot of music theory here at Davidson, gone through your traditional 4 part vocal voice leading stuff, so I know what you're talking about.
In terms of the cover, you can definitely hear they choir geek coming through. The vocals are great, though maybe not particularly suited to this style. I enjoyed it though. Really, if you want to sound rock n rolly at all, you need to let your technique falter a little. Freddy Mercury I think is the only person to ever exist who could pull off opera vocals with electric guitars and a trap set behind him. So unless you can pull off Freddy, you have to let it get a little muddy, a little throaty. I find that I support with my diaphragm and it's almost like I add color with my throat. I definitely also use unconventinal mouth shapes: it's not all round like it's supposed to be. Finally, you don't have to worry as much about really pronouncing and annunciating everything. You don't have to chew off all those consonants and syllables. But this stuff is only if you want to sing stuff that isn't choral art music. And who's to say really that you have to sing it in a certain way, you know? Anyway, I liked the cover, and it's obvious that you have a good voice. Oh, one last thing, for the scats, I do think they were a little much. First time through was cool, to a certain extent, but the second time I thought was one too many. The reason I say that the first was cool to a certain extent is this: this is just my personal opinion, but if you're going to have a scat that has a LOT of singing like yours did, most of it needs to be pitched I think, or else it comes out too muddy and confusing. Dave usually does non-pitched scats, but they are more rhythmic than melodic. I felt you tried to do a melodic scat for which there was no percievable melody. Oh the whole though, good cover.

hey thanks ticohans for your comments. I guess I see what your saying about the technique.....I really learned how to sing in choir, and the technique is hard to carry over to this style. I will definetly work on the "throat color" idea, sounds like there's something to that. Thanks for the comments.
