MY FIRST FULL COVER - Halloween...

Unread post by billywestom » Mon Feb 10, 2003 5:07 pm

 I was kinda nervous, so I'll just see what you think. None of the recording is even near perfect, I know. I sped it up a bit, and tried to hit the screams, but it still sounds like I'm holding back. It's still a fun song to play. Well, whatever, just take a listen...

Oh yeah, I'm working on the download of that Cool Edit Pro, so I can put up .mp3's instead of .wav's. I'll be doing another cover as soon as my throat stops bleeding after this one... [/url]

hey billy...I couldnt find a single thing wrong with your cover...everything was done spot on(guitar and vocal-wise)...the only thing I can suggest is that you just keep on practicing the song, then it will sound even better...you hit all the notes vocally too...good job bro!

Hey man good work. Guitar was great. I'll agree that it is a fun song to play. Especially when you're pissed off.

My only critique would be that the screams sounded like they were fake screams (I'm guilty of doing this as well) It's like you're trying to make your voice sound like a scream but you're not really screaming. You should try absolutely jsut screaming thsoe parts or just actually singing them becasue I think they are bad for your vocal chords (I think - I am not a vocal coach nor taken vocal lessons)

I'm gonna post my mellow Halloween so you should give a listen - and tell me what I could improve.

Peace, love, good tunes,

by the sound of your voice, you are singing completly out of your throat, and if you keep doing those screams like that your gonna hurt your throat. Simple as that. You guitar was great, but it sounds to me like you should be singing it an octave up......I don't think that would be a very big stretch for you.....it will sound more like singing if you sing it from the gut. I would say your singing it way to low in your voice and you could definelty sing it in the upper octave.

hey billy, I wasn't trying to be a dick....i'm studying music right now, vocal/choral music to be exact, so I have some idea as to what i'm talking about....i'm about 2 semesters away from my BA in music ed, but I think you definetly could be a good singer, just (and this will sound wierd), get your vocals to come from a deeper place in your torso, rather than from your throat. To different people this means a different thing, so just experiment and find what works for you. keep playing

thanks greg, dont worry about it, i know EXACTLY what you are talking about. i can tell when i listen to the playback. there are basically those two ways of singing. when i record some others i will make sure to try harder. i am planning on doing the stone (everyone has to, don't they?) soon, after this billies contest is over.
