Ok, well whether it be I made enemies somehow on the board or the people that I have critiqued in the past don't hit me back, or of course that no one cares. Being that I thought this cover was one of my best and something different ie not dave and still have no responses... I don't know... kinda harsh. So I think I'm done on the boards. Good luck to all you guys who are getting out to the public and playing your ass off, playing your originals, and working on sharpening your skills... I might still keep my site up for a while (till they shut me down, whatever)...one last peace

You need to chill out a bit. You have 100 posts and your worried that you've made enemies? I've been here a lot longer and the majority of people here don't know who the fuck I am. Not to mention I've gotten into the worst arguments with the people I respect and like the most. Stick around a while and become part of the community before you start calling shots.
I'll be the first to admit that the regulars get A LOT more feedback in this forum but that shouldn't concern you. Just make the best recordings you can and take the advice your given.
I also want to point out that you didn't leave a very large window for responses. You have to give it time. I try and answer every post I can but sometimes I'm not on here for several days.

Now for the critique:
Overall I liked it. I'm on the fence with the vocal overdubbs. I like them and dislike them. I would also like to have heard MORE PASSION. I have given this advice to you more than once so I won't go into it. I will say that a requirement for singing a song like this is to really feel the lyrics. It's certainly not a happy song and it's even less of a laid back song but the vibe you gave it was. I've also said before that I really enjoy the tone of your voice and I feel no different after hearing this. Your vocals have just the right amount of warmth and raspiness to them, it's really a great combination.

I hope you reconsider leaving the boards. That being said, if you choose to stay I will not be so comforting the next time you have a hissy fit.

yeah man, MWR pretty much hit the spot on all topics here... First off, leaving the board won't help you at all..and help is the whole point of this site in the first place

secondly, i thought you did a nice job with redemption song. The overdubs need a little work, good idea though. Timing and pitch need to be adjusted a little...at times it sounds more like a conversation than a song...but overall, nice job

I'm impressed with much of your work as well as stuff from the past, so i'd ask that you keep posting...thanks

I think feeling like people are obligated to reply to you is entirely backwards of the mentality you should have. When I post stuff, I entirely expect no one to reply to it, and then I am always pleasently suprised when people do. I think it is fair to say that around here the amount of comments you will get it directly proportional to how good your stuff is on average.. people gravitate towards posts from people that they know will have something interesting.. so you have to build a reputation of sorts.

All that withstanding, you attracted my attention, and my critiquing is probably as harsh the come, and so I usually don't critique people who will get offended..

Obviously this is multi-track, and the syncing between your tracks makes the feel of the tempo weak. The secondary vocals are way too hot, and I think you should have just left them out and did the whole thing as one track. As was already mentioned, I don't think you achieve the proper vocal tone for this song. The guitars sound ok, the higher chords are like harsh around the 4k frequencies, if that means anything to you. I think the guitar is fine, but again, I don't feel much expression in the playing.. I realize it is a low-key song, but even in that there is expression to be had.

I gotta say I feel where blue is coming from, it's the exact same reason I wont post stuff here anymore. Flame me for not getting replies because I'm not very good, or whatever makes you feel better, the fact remains that the critiquing side of the recording and critiquing forum is severely lacking for the most part...

As much as I would like to put my own stuff on here, I can only listen to some out of tune moof sing a Dave Matthews song so many times before I want to slit my wrists.

This is not to say that people shouldn't post here, that's what it's for ... However, I don't feel like I have an obligation to listen to something just because it's here.

If DMBGuitar718 or RitzBitz (because I know those two) posted something here, I'd listen to it because it was GOOD.

Don't just post something to post something ... Post something that is the best you can do at the time. Have some passion ... some soul in it ... otherwise it's a bad ripoff.

this is absolutely hilarious to me because they both have recent posts on the front page of this forum that you havent replied to.

I can see where you're coming from about no obligation to listen, but I think this reinforces my point of a general lack of critiquing, especially because these are people you specifically said you'd listen to.

now you, or myself, or any other poster for that matter, has no obligation to critique things that they listen to, just as we all have no obligation to even listen.

that having been said, I would like to think that anyone who took the time to post their stuff in order to improve would take the time to critique stuff other people posted to help them in return. with some obvious exceptions, people dont do that for the most part.

my 10 pence.

Hilarious, I love when people destroy their songs by trying to do Dave's vocals. I know I cant sing Dave so I usually just play lead or rythym when Im at a gig. (I have a singer)

Hey Bluewaters, Don't let these guys get to ya. Yes, beleive it or not there are clicks on this board. If your aren't in the click then most likeyl you will be getting flamed.

Cliques? I don't think there are any cliques... there are certain people that are more abrasive than others and sometimes people just don't like them. And yes, if someone knows you, they're far more likely to listen to what you post. That doesn't mean that there are cliques...

I have always found that when you critique other people's work... they are 100 times more likely to critique your own.
