Cry Freedom Cover

Unread post by BlueWaters » Mon Jul 05, 2004 11:13 am

Man, this one took a while and it really shouldn't have. The guitar took about 4 takes, the vocals about 40 takes. Yesterday's fireworks were my extra motivation to finish, so here's my best shot...enjoy...tell me how much it sucks

I like it. If you spent a lot of time working on it, you could have one incredible voice. As it is, it's a very good voice.

A+.
Stay with me, safe and ignorant.

it's annoying when you make a link with the title of the song, but it's really just a link to your website.. at least to me. This would be better

good job with the song

Well it's pretty much just to be visually pleasing by putting the link instead of just saying "go to my website". Plus Angelfire doesn't let you direct link to files so you can take it up with them if you want...sorry

yes it does work...

I didn't know that angelfire dosen't let you use direct links to their files, sorry about that. Personally, I'd rather it say your website instead of the song name.. because I always right click and save it on the desktop, then end up with your website saved on my desktop. I know it's not that big of a deal, I wasn't angry or anything.. just suggesting.

Sorry to be "off topic", but could we stay "on topic". I've gotten one good critique, comments are cool too, but I would like them to be about the post...not trying to be an ass here.

Just a question to add to replys: Am I at the point where it's like, "Ok, there's another bluewaters cover. Great job, later"? Is there nothing else to be said about my posts? Am I not really improving? If so, I may just take some time off and work on my skill before I post again. This doesn't count the original song I'm about to put up on my site. I could use some feedback here...peace

I didn't listen to it, but i listened to the original, yes, you're improving. and to thepackage, that link only works if you copy/paste it. It's not that big of a deal that he links it to his site.. i actually like that because i don't check the recording forum often and can see all of his work peices at once..

the link works if you right click it and click "Save Target As"

As for bluewater.. I think you did a good job on the song. I don't think "oh it's another bluewater cover".. I think "oh it's another dmb cover." I've heard tons of dmb covers here.. now I normally don't listen unless it's an original or a cover of another artist. I guess I'm just burnt out on dmb covers.

Not bad at all. For the most part, your voice doesn't seem like it's struggling, which is always immediately noticeable. It struggles when you hold a note sometimes, but as a whole, it was enjoyable. However, I think you added way too much reverb. It is a nice effect but it sounds like I'm listening to you play at the other end of a long tunnel. I'd actually like to hear this without so much echo. Again, regardless, pretty nice job.
-Brian

Be excellent to one another.

It might not have, for the most part, sounded like I was struggling, but the song as a whole I definitely struggled with...I don't know if you saw my introduction about how the vocals took me like 30 takes. I think the echo was just my way of trying to kill the roughness of the vocals, regardless, sometimes heavy reverb works well, sometimes it doesn't. Thanks for the input though, very much appreciated...peace

Well, I'm playing an Ibanez Acouctic-Electric Performance, an ATR30 low impedence mic, and I run both through my Crate 125D Acoustic Amp. I haven't fully understood Cool Edit Pro so I do my tracks with MultiTrackStudio and then master with Cool Edit Pro.

Someone asked me recently how I get my guitar to sound the way it does. I thought it could just be the guitar...my Ibanez doesn't have the most crisp sound. I just bought some D'Adarrio mediums that have helped a little, but now that I think about it, it could be that I'm running through my acoustic amp, still not positive though, and I still want to sell the Ibanez and get a Martin acoustic dreadnought...peace
