see the other thread for my response.
with regards to your opinion, the reason i don't care for it in terms of my covers is that no one else agrees with you. and the majority of your opinions are "you suck" but then you give no explination as to what was wrong. you can't get beyond the "you suck" or "you're gay" stage. if you could actually post what you think could be made better, your opinions would have more weight as they address a specific issue.
you never once said what was wrong with my tripping billies cover. you just said "you can't play rhythm for shit" and no one else happened to agree, even in the slightest bit. so what am i supposed to do? agree with one person who posts no reasons why he thinks i was off, or go with the opinions of everyone else who bothered to post anything at all in the thread?
and since the tripping billies cover was so terribly horrendus, i'm posting a new one. i would have posted the old one, but deleted it after i took it off the webpage to put my own music up. you see if you can find anything wrong with it.

"ever since I've come here and people started saying that my singing waasn't all that good, I have been a little less certain about it and my ability to play guitar...I think that maybe I have gotten worse from all these different things people have told me": - Jason
well then Jason, after your comments we all must be infantile by now at guitar...you pay for what you get
"if you arent going to praise the artist, the worst you should say to anyone that posts a song should be: "it was ok, singing lesson might make it better!", or "it sounds ok, guitar lessons might make it better", or "I really like that one part..."
or just don't say anything at all
because no matter which way you look at it, opinion and words do hurt, maybe even more than sticks and stones. " - Jason
either you are turning over a new leaf, or you are the most hypocritical man alive Jason...

christ guys, leave him alone.... he's got a valid concern, and a serious intent here... and instead of commending the idea, we bash the person
sound familiar? ...... i assumed that most poeple had by the end, understood jason's seemingly strange personality shifts... but all of that aside. i thnk he makes some valid points... and the level of critiquing could always be higher... even from the ones who post indepth critiques... but the hope is that when we post we get something more intact then "good stuff..." or "that sucks"...

Amen Xoosh!
Since this thread and the ??Suggestion?? thread are similar, I will post here for both of theml. Xoosh, if I duplicate some of your original thoughts on critiqueing (sp?) please forgive me.
These are just some of my thoughts...
There are some incredible musicians on this board (Jason IMO is one of them) and we all stand to benifit from each others input.
The problem (again IMO) begins when people begin to bash each other and not stay focused on the helping (and being helped) part.
When someone posts their work, expect to get feedback...both positive and negative. Getting all positive feedback will not help anyone progress as a musician, and isn't that the ultimate goal of posting the work in the first place?
When critiqueing someones work, NEVER NEVER NEVER criticize the person, only the work. And if you are going to give negative comments about the work, please try to always give a suggestion to how it can be improved...otherwise the comment comes close to bashing and that is where the hurt feelings come into play.
And with the risk of being called a preacher I need to suggest one more thing...please try to keep the four letter (and others) out of it. I am a big boy and can take all kind of language, but in my nearly 45 years of life experience, I can truly say that that kind of language is almost always interpreted as a personnal attack...which leads to hurt feelings...bashing...and wasted threads.
I love this site. I have become a better guitar player from it. I think it is capable of great things...if only we treat each other with respect.
Sorry for the long post...I don't post often so I must have had it bottled up inside me
Peace

I for one do not feel that anyone has bashed any of the few pieces I have put up. They have offered criticism and even some things I should try the next time.
The other side of these "critiquing" rules is that if you receive some comments on how to improve your piece, you cannot throw up the defensive walls and start flailing insults at people. I feel that is where this problem lies. Some people feel that the critiques and insults to them.
So, maybe the citiquers (sp?) should make it extra blatent that they are provided constructive crticism and the critiquees (sp? - is it even a word
) do not take said critiques personally.
Again this is my 2 cents and it's only Canadian currency (so it's not worth much)
Peace, love and good tunes....

i agree with you jason, but you do realize that you are asking to redeem people respect here by turning over a new leaf and if you ever bash someone again for no reason then youre probably going to lose everyones respect and never get it back
just wanted to warn you that youre crossing a line
a good line for us
im just not sure if a guy like you considers it a good or a bad line

Everybody always asks me how she's doing. Has she really lost her mind? I said "I couldn't tell you, I've lost mine."
