a pirated version of cool edit
even a cheap mixer would make it sooo much easier
get a behringer from musicians friend, i think they go down to like 50 bucks or somtin.. you just need inputs for 2 mics (vocals and guitar) (a cheap mic and mic stand from radio shack shouldnt put you up more than 50 bucks) and another one of you have an electrocustic
and your stock soundcard will work
thats pretty much what i have except i have a little better mixer
any more questions about anything.. just ask

all you really need is a program like cool edit ($125 off ebay), a mic w/stand ($100)a decent sound card and then you can get adapters at radio shack for like 5 bucks (all together $20) and you can plug in your guitar and mic right into the regular mic input on your computer. thats probably the cheapest route. all together w/ registered version of cool edit your looking at around $250 if your computer already has the sound card and whatnot. if you got anymore questions just ask

Wayward_Blue, I feel sorry for you if you spent $150 on cool edit. As for the original question, you can just use a free (pirated) version of cool edit and a regular computer mic that a comp comes with. I record my stuff like that, it cost me nothing and it sounds fine unless youre going for serious pro recording

I disagree about the computer mic. Theres no way for the tiny capsule in those shitty mics to pic up every frequency. Your left with no bass which is just as important as the highs. A decent condenser mic is less than a 100$ and it's worth every penny. After the mic the next most important thing is some recording knowledge. I don't have a very good set-up but I have some knowledge and my recordings reflect that.jsgksu wrote:Wayward_Blue, I feel sorry for you if you spent $150 on cool edit. I only record stuff to help people and I record my own songs just so I dont forget them. Im not trying to do anything professional here but the recordings actually sound not bad at all Good enough that Im not gonna turn around and spend over $100 for equipment. And I would bet most people would say they sound just find unless theyre super pickyMWR wrote:I disagree about the computer mic. I would really suggest spending about $100 for a mic and getting a Shure SM58. It'll make your recordings sound really good.

I don't think an $80 mic is raising anything to the professional level. A profesional level mic would cost you well over $500 and unless you have a recording booth and great hardware to match you probably won't hear an amazing difference from mics costing half that.jsgksu wrote:I only record stuff to help people and I record my own songs just so I dont forget them. Your stuff sounds good(for a computer mic) but I promise you your jaw would drop at how much better it sounds. Considering how much people pay for their guitar a sub 100$ mic is chump change by comparison.
