Well, if you all want to feel better about your vocal/guitar skills I could put a song up. I mean, I really suck. Seriously, just ask my wife. When I am done playing LIOG my wife is ready to do just that.
The reason I play Dave songs is simple. I enjoy connecting with it by playing it with my hands and singing it with my voice. For some reason I can’t get that connection by just listening to the music. Hell, why else would the air guitars -- that we all play at the shows -- be around?

Merry Christmas you bastards :)

Xoosh, don't mind what certain people say...I don't disagree with you whatsoever...in fact I believe that everyone should put their own style into other people's songs...that's what covers are for...not to do the exact same thing...but Jason...you still FREAKIN RULE!!! LOL I only say that cos I do put my style into dave songs...but only cos I SUCK and can't play 'em the right way!!! AHAHAHAHAH
What I want is what I've not got, but what I need is all around me.

by the way, Excellent job on the tune man. I couldn't have done it better myself :) :P you have quite the ear on ya. yeah, and all that crap that some are saying about that its not a good cover because its not a good "interpretation" and that's its merely a replication or whatnot, is a compliment in my books. When they start saying that, you know you're playing them right!! :) keep em' comin' man, and try to get that voice louder as do I. Anyway, later.

peace,
Ken[/i]
good, and you?

yeah exactly. My feeling is now that you've got this part down have fun with it. But you probably wont and that's your perogative not mine ;)

people, "play it their own way" because they can't play it the right way...at least not right now anyway...it's as simple as that.
Like at a bar, would you rather hear someone play it their own way, or play it like as close to dave as possible?....duhh...I've heard a few people cover dave songs at bars "their own way" and I was like...uhh, hmmmm....so then I showed then how to really play it, and they were like, " Wow, how long did it take you to play it like that?? I only play it my way because I can get by without anyone knowing in the audience"...now, granted those were just those particular people that day, but I have a feeling that they speak for a lot of people playing dave songs...anyway, I feel if you're gonna criticize a cover for playing it "too much like dave" well, then I guess we're all screwed and should just give this whole "accurate dave tab" website up. I mean why bother? some of you will never be pleased...and i want to know why someone like Xoosh is running this website, sorry man, but you don't seem to be very hardcore dave at all...

id just like to reply to winston's post by making several points:
the first and foremost point is, winston, you're a complete idiot.
the second: Hendrix does not own Watchtower. Dave's cover of the Dylan tune beats the living crap out of Jimi's.
the third: the reason people slammed your covers is not because you made them too original. the reason is that they SUCK. your singing is extremely off and odd, it sounds like you're singing with some kind of odd nerd impression to mediocre guitar playing
the final: go away.
thank you.

in reply to jason: You are right, it doesnt sound like im into dave at all. However i am. I have over 200 discs of dave shows that never leave my cd changer, i play dave constantly when i jam with my friends, i play dave live, i have too much and two step on my demo cd, and i worked with jared kanter for free on dmbtabs.com. I certainly dont criticisize your view of me, it's unfortunate that i dont come off as more of a fan, i find that im more realistic to myself and i find that dave is awesome but there are other musicians out there that are awesome too. I also found that when i was obsessed with dave i got tired of him, so now im rounding my self out more. I listen to dave regularly but not exclusively, i play dave regularly but not exclusively... listening to dave matthews band was a godsend for me... it allowed me to realize i enjoy eclectic music! like Medeski Martin and Wood... i heard about bella fleck through dave... which i am eternally greatful for... For me, dave is a beautiful, wonderful, excellent, fun, powerful musician... however he's not the only one in my world :) It's simply a difference of opinions. And perhaps i was in the right place at the right time. I dont consider my self a "runner of this website" i consider myself a community member with a delete / edit button ;) (all joking aside, im very happy with my position on the website, and i hope that you all can respect me as a leader as well as a member.)

regards,

I'd also like to add that you're point about playing dave 100% at a bar is a very valid point. And i find that sometimes my views on covering and music is a little warped. And that you are obviously not alone in your opinion... and that covering "your own way" because you cant play it the right way is a very accurate observation which i completely agreewith. What i was hoping for was that you would understand that you CAN play it the right way... so maybe to take another step forward and then turn it into Jason's version of Trippin Billies... or smoething. I say that out of respect to you and your musicianship -- not as a cut at you :)

re,
x

p.s: waffle_house_jam, your last comment is kinda weird, who were you directing that to? Jason or the other guy? anyways, thanks for backing me up... i think everyone is pretty much entitled to their own opinions ;)
