WOW thanks alot for spending so much time and actually watching the whole thing as i suspect many didnt (i dont blame them) im just comending you.c_tietze wrote:This may be long, my bad, but I'm going to be honest....
My personal feeling (obviously this was done for fun, that's what music should be about at the core, but I shall digress) is that if a singer does not play an instrument they better be A. a fucking kick ass singer and B. they can connect with people/stage presence/the like.
The kid on bass reminds me of when I first tried to play with a band on a song I didn't know like 3 years ago and I just kind of stood there like a retard because I didn't know what the fuck I was doing.
Your rhythm is good, volume is too loud on your guitar. Could be the mix, the recording, but it's too much.
Back to the singer (at Grey St. now) is she nervous or something? I'm feeling a little depressed watching her because she looks so uncomfortable
You and the drummer (Grey St.) are locking in nicely (kill the bass player).
Do you have ANY monitors?
Skipped GGD.
Cannonball, mix is tough, good guitar work, reallyThere are a couple points where your singer goes a littler higher/softer and that sounds good, it's a change, you know, you got to mix it up (dynamics)
I've heard people say using a music stand is cool, I personally think it's busch league and insults the audience. Granted this is low key and you didn't charge money (did you?) but know the words or make them up.
Jimi Thing, well I think that no woman or at least no woman with this vox tone should be singing DMB songs. I am having fun watching/listening to the drummer and you though, that's some tight shit. Kid's keeping it on the one and shit. You ripped it up on this song nice work
Hallelujah. Oh Jesus, this is not a song you do if you aren't going to go 100%. It's like House of the Rising Sun or the slow Cash version of Long Black Veil. Band is waaaaay too loud and tempo is to quick. For me at least. (DYNAMICS!)
Side note, Leonard Cohen wrote Hallelujah if I am not mistaken.
Watchtower. Bass is mad lacking, and the vocals are not really working for me, it's not her voice, but maybe the key is not right for her and/or the constant tone of her voice.
I respect all people who make music, it takes guts to play in front of people. Keep playing! It looks like you're having fun!!!! If you're ever in Mass. let me know, you could show me how to play guitar (serious, I'm a hack at best).
Peace

ok: responses:
first off, no we had no monitors, which is a problem for the singer. it was a real jimmy rigged setup. and yeh i think there were alot of mixing problems i agree with you there.
ok grey street: yes she mentioned many times that she was not nervous but felt uncomfortable because she didnt know what to do onstage, she kept on tellin me like i was gonna tell her what to do, but thats just stage presence and should come naturally imo.
see, the drummer is FANTASTIC. that was the first time he had heard/played grey street in his life, hand on my heart. ive never met anyone with a better sense for music and tone of different songs, not to mention mastery of the set. this was the first time he played most of these songs with us, hence the messy endings on almost all of the songs. you see, the bassist, drummer, and i jam all the time, but without vocals and we dont do it to specific songs. we just pick a progression and go. but yeh hes fucking nuts.
cannonball: the singer and i have been working seperate from the bassist and drummer for awhile and this is our goto song, def our best, thanks for the words.
money was charged but it was a fundraiser for my schools art department, so they werent paying to see us there was a full afrt display.
jt: yeh again the drummer, never played that song but able to tear it to shit nonetheless.
hallelujah- I KNO ITS TOO QUICK! MFER! i argued with that damn vocalist about this, but shes one of these people, dont get me wrong a close friend of mine, but shes always on the edge of mega-bitchery, and she was complaining about how slow i was playing the song, i wanted to avoid an argument so i was just like FUCK IT. and i played it the way she wanted me too... SHE MADE ME CAPO IT TOO! i was pissed but oh well...
aatw: you no likey bass solo in the beginning? im kinda fond of it, maybe a little more structured.
this was my pick i love the song and always wanted to throw the stairway chorus in there, so ill take the bullet for this one, the vocalist didnt want to do it and it makes sense, doenst fit her voice.
thanks for the in depth analysis. we should jam sometime.
