i can play more than that, just dont feel like listing everything. OSW isnt that hard of a song. the only song ive tried to really sing along with is ants and i can do that easy. i might try others. im gonna have to face my fears and put a song up where i sing so i can get some critiquing of my voice. however, i have to study ww2 for a test tomorrow. how strange - the war to world war 2 at this time..

i got my first guitar about 2 years ago, i started lessons and such, sucked ass for a couple months, quit lessons, sucked up some shit for a couple more months, started lessons again, then quit and sucked up some more, then started practicing a lot, started lessons, and i was off....
my guitar teacher complemented me on my improvements, we started going into some more shit, just last week he said he wanted to record some shit for fun, so i am moving along nicely, after i got over the first initial hump, i was off, i can play anything on the site(except for the few songs i havent took the time to learn, songs im not too interested in or whatever) he taught me tons of shit about dave, and showed me easy ways to play the songs before i got the exact ways, all in all, i got a good year and a few months under my belt, but i am pleased with my progress(throught extensive practice) i am a dominate rhythm player, it seems one morning i woke up and the strumming i chased forever appeared, i built on it, and i got daves strumming down pat, thats my strength, i do need some more theory teaching, and need to practice some more styles besides dave, i can play a decent amount by other artists, but, dave is so good i chased that squirrel first, now i just need to make up more original shit, and expand on my theory, but, the point of this post is, after you get over the initial hump, and can learn something rather quickly, and can feel a strumming rhythm, you are set, then its all learning from there, you can play all your life, and you still wont get a quarter of whats out there, so dont get too down, just play what you play, and remember, you are still better than most people(considereing most dont play, haha) just work on shit and practice, and your talent and knowledge will expand exponentially,
peace

I guess it depends on who's giving the lessons. A good teacher can be very helpful. I've never taken lessons, but I've learned from friends and others who knew more than me and I guess that's kinda like taking lessons.Trippin Hillbilly wrote:About 2 1/2 years..........
Who of you have actually been to lesson's?
Is it worth it? I've never tried it..

I've been playing for 2 years and 3 months now... I'm not sure how well I'm doing as I don't really have anyone around me to compare to. I took lessons for a month or two when I first got my guitar but stopped when I had to move back home for the summer and I never picked the lessons back up the following school year. I have a Fender DG14S and while it sounded good 2 years ago... now that I've learned more, I don't really like the sound it produces. The E strings give me the most grief. The low E string sounds dead and the high E string twangs out of tune whenever it's struck.
Here's a little sample of Tripping Billies I've been working on. I'm still not happy with it and I don't know if I'll be able to do the verse sections in any distant future. Just from watching Dave play it on VH1 Storytellers amazes me.
