no prob,, i dont dislike you or anything.. but really, your are not really a good guitar player..
but i know that you haven´t been playing for so long..

the thing that annoys me is that you think you are so great and give shit to people that wanna learn to play guitar or have question about what guitar they should buy etc..... i read you posts on the boards...

if you are more humble to people on the boards and about yourself, we will agree just fine...

i definetly dont have too much confidence when it comes to playin.. things like "bring it mofos" are a joke now beacause i suck. i hope you see that.

as far as gear is concerned... i do consider myself to be one of the more educated people in the forum. you see, i am a nerd. i did assloads of research before i even picked up a guitar. the first guitar i ever got needed to be repaired for it was even playable. i hope my poor playing doesnt make people think subconciously that i am uneducated. i feel i have given good, fair advice in the gear forum

edit: and i dont give people shit. i am always constructive. even with singing advice!

And the winner is......

A tie! Strange as it may seem, there is a tie.

I assembled a team of 8 independant judges, and each of them listened to 6 mp3s. One mp3 was a red herring, and the other 5 were from real contestants. Each judge listed his or her choices in order. Points were given for each ranking. 5 points for first place, 4 points for second place, etc. Points were then totalled and we had a tie.

With 32 points each, both Ben and Pat win first place.
Since it's a tie, I'll give each of them a disc of videos.

Winners, please PM me with your email address, and I'll be in contact.

I'd like to thank everybody for partcipating in the contest. They were all great, and it was tough to choose just one best one. If you didn't participate, I'm sure i'll have another contest after the new year.

Now on to the mp3s:

RIGHT-CLICK, SAVE AS....

Dmbguitar718
getoffmywalrus
Pez
praisedave
Keith - Red Herring

I hope my site doesn't act all funky and cut off the mp3 downloads. If you think there's a problem, check the FAQ on my site. Thanks again to everybody. Rob from weeklydavespeak wants me to remind y'all about his writing contest on his site. He's giving away some real DMB merchandise.

The equipment cost nothing to me. The microphone came with the computer, and I think my earphones were stolen off an airplane. The software (Acid Pro), however, is what will cost ya. I believe it runs for about $400 off the shelf, but I found it online with a student discount for $150. With that, I was able to collect different percussive samples, loop them in there, and then record myself on the cello, keyboard, and guitar. (Which, by the way were procured for $400, $110, and $80 respectively. The guitar is a piece of crap, and the keyboard is hella old, but the cello is decent.)

I'd like to say that I enjoyed all of those. Here are my reviews:

AdamCU: I really the effects you did to Tony's Ohio loop in the beginning. Also, your added guitar stuff at :21 was cool. The drum track at :13 was a bit 'demo-y' if you know what I mean. It kinda changes the tone of everything you portray in the rest of the recording. The vocals at :34 - brilliant! So awesome. If you ever feel like guesting on one of my acapellas (in the style of that random guest singer on Everyday (the song)) let me know.

Dmbguitar: I liked how you juxtaposed the different styles together. I don't know too much about the technical aspects of guitaring but your recording had a nice sound to it nonetheless.

Getoffmywalrus: I like the addition of the percussive track and that heavy bass at :08. The two fit together like bread and a slicer. The mixing between a major and minor tone on the keyboard thereafter was a cool effect. Kinda like this animal creeping up to its prey, deciding when to attack. And then the attack at :27 with the electric - bonechilling. Mwahahahhh. The riff at :39 is key. The bending effect at the end might have been a bit overdone, but I like the idea. Overall, very entertaining.

BenPezzner: Complete rubbish. A waste of time. I can do much better. As a matter of fact, I think you just ripped me off.

Praisedave: The solo that comes in at :08 is cool. Here are two suggestions. Firstly, it's done in the style of a Boyd nancies solo (only four notes the whole time). This is not bad, however since it varies so little it probably would have been better if it were not so prevalent amonst the rest of the tracks. Secondly, the tonic note (the note in which the key of the piece is) should be your default note when you reach a downbeat between musical phrases. That doesn't mean you have to play it all the time, but just remember it when you don't know what to play and are looking for a note to hold out. For example, imagine the two held out notes at :37 and :40 being the tonic (D). This would have better ended the solo. Don't worry about it though... just a minor detail. Also, I like your a capella percussion at :13. Sounds awesome. If it's at all possible, try experimenting with layers. As cool as it is now, with each new thing you add to it, whether it be a click of the tongue or a flick of the lip, the 'coolness factor' grows exponentially. Awesome job and keep it up!

Keith: Nice mellow sound. I like what you did with the melody (extending it from 2 measures to 4) and the harmonizing was cool. Banjos rock! (that was a banjo, right?) I also like the different rhythms at :47. A nice listen.

Ok, well that just about covers it.

i tied for first place? what?

haha. I finished that last night at like 11 something, and it's really not worth beating ben's. thanks guys though. :)

Ben you did a really fantastic job on that. I love the cello. However at sometimes, the techno beats confused me a bit. I did like it though.

ok. I just have to say. Who is this Ben Pez? And how do we know it's not 4 different people doing one recording? Some chick on the keyboard, Pez on the cello, someone else on the guitar, etc, etc? No one can be that talented without being famous for it.
