JaDaRu wrote:I usually do the fingerpicking version, but the strummed sounds much better. Billy, can you give me any idea what sort of strumming pattern you are using? I can't strum for sh%t, but I'm working on it. Seems I can't keep my hand moving fluidly. Are you muting or what? Sorry if this sounds clueless, cause it is.

Thanks,

Jason
hmmm, kind of hard to explain. try plucking the bass note and strumming the full chord in between those, and then you can move on to strumming the chords only. have you tried downloading the farmaid 2002 video of that song? you can hear the guitar well, and see Daves strumming.

No, I haven't tried that yet. I'll give it a go. I think the main issue is just my learning how to strum well. Obviously, it'll take work and time.

Not really like Crash, actually it's exactly like Crush. In Crash, you pluck one note, and strum the higher notes, which isn't what you do here. I just told you that for practice, so it could help you get the strumming down. You really do hit the full chords (except in the intro part). I guess that strumming is something that you pick up when you learn timing/etc.

How long have you been playing guitar? The timing thing just comes with practice and building the ability to hear changes and stuff. If yer new at guitar, then that is understandable. You will eventually learn it without even trying.

I've been playing since December. Sorry if I'm asking incredibly vague questions and such, I just sometimes get frustrated when i listen to the amazing stuff you guys are doing. My stuff doesn't even resemble the songs and my strumming frustrates the hell out of me. I guess I'm just being way too impatient. That's alright though, I'm ready to put in the effort if it means being able to play well. Thanks for all your help, Billy, but I'm about to embark on a 72-hour sleepless adventure. If I post something odd in the next few days, it'll be due to extreme sleep deprivation.

No problem...I remember the frustration. Strumming can be tough in the beginning. But you will find out that there are really only a few MAIN strumming patterns, and they all correspond to just about every song that you will learn.

I'm the kind of idiot who tried and failed.......Its my last few weeks before going away to college and my friends and I decided to do something incredibly idiotic and painful. So we came up with "Op 72", in which we planned to stay up for 72 straight hours and make a documentary. Out of my five friends, I was the only one to make it past 40 hours. I probably could have made it to at least 60 hours, but everyone else was sleeping and it would have been incredibly boring. Now I feel horrible. STUPID STUPID IDEA (although the documentary will be funny). Anyways, I'm back.

the guitar work was really good but i hope you toned down the vocals for the purpose of this thread cuz you could barely hear them at all.
