so because he thought your singing was "in key" his reasoning is superior to ours?

you posted a link to a song that you covered and asked for opinions. everyone thus far has agreed that the guitar playing was great. and as has been said before, there is potential in the singing, but its just not there yet. this isn't to say that i, or anyone else on this board, could do any better, but we aren't the ones that posted the link to the mp3 either.

if you only want someone to say what you want to hear, this isn't the forum for it. i think your guitar playing is great. SUPERB. as far as the singing, you may have been in key, but it doesn't sound like "your" voice. it sounds like you are forcing it. if you're not, fine. but there is no need to say we "lack" reasoning because we aren't sugar-coating everything.

Hey - good god it is tiring trying to communicate on these boards. Someone always takes offense to something. No, I am not looking for suger-coated critiques, however, despite what you say above. Only one guy said my voice had potentional. All the rest had not one good thing to say, until neverkilladream said at least I was in key.

And by the way, I said most of the ppl on here, and actually you are not one of the "most" I was talking about. Guys like this:

"But...not to be a bastard but the voice is pretty bad. Not that I'm saying I could do better (OH BUT I COULD)." Well then post your mp3 and let's juxtapose the 2. I mean I don't have a problem with criticism, but if you don't have the balls to back a statement up like this then keep away.

And, well, now after going back and reading the replies, maybe "most" was not the right word. But it sure felt like it up until the last good post I mentioned.

All in all, I am pleased with the feedback I have received here. And I appreciate everyone taking the time to listen.

P.S. "you may have been in key, but it doesn't sound like "your" voice. it sounds like you are forcing it."

Yea, I get that a lot. Sounds like the voice of a God channeling through me, huh. :)

Hey - I forgot to mention this as well. I posted this song on another board (not a dmb board) to see if I was getting bad reviews on the singing cause everyone here is pretty much die hard Dave fans. And here is something someone from another board said:

As far as the opinions you may have received on another BBS, I hope that doesn't bug you too much. The coolest cover songs are ALWAYS the ones that take a song in a completely different direction. Joe Cocker covered the Beatles and kicked ass by doing the tune in a TOTALLY unrecognizable fashion. I don't think you can expect to change a tune up and get love from a board dedicated to the artist who did the tune originally unless you do it EXACTLY like the original... But why would anybody want to do that??? To me, covers are cool if you can put your own stamp on them. Otherwise, they're good practice for honing your recording techniques.

Anyway, I thought you did a very interesting interpretation, and I thought the guitar sounded like ass.

Much Love,
-The Pontificator

Check his comment at the bottom too, go figure!!!

Unread post by PNP padowan » Mon Nov 18, 2002 11:03 pm

the guitar was REAL good...the only suggestion is the high part on the verse...maybe not play it every repetition..if you know what im talking about...the voice does sound "strained" i guess, like, maybe trying to get the dave-ish accents on it...but the song up was REAL good...if i had some sort of way of puttin my stuff i would.
