Whats up everybody,

I'm new to posting over here but I've been lurking around for a while. I felt compelled to reply as I think your songs are amazing(my favorite is dumpty). Anyway, as far as recording I would reccomend spending a little more and getting a hard disk recorder with XLR connections. Any high quality large diaphram condenser mics are going to need phantom power and most of the smaller units dont have it requiring you to get a pre-amp of some sort.
As far as mics go I have been researching them a lot recently and the Audio Technica 3035 would be an awesome choice for acoustic guitar and vocals. Check out some reviews and you will see. They can be found for about $180 bucks each which is a little pricey but it will make a huge differance.
Another thing to consider would be a tube pre-amp(ART makes a good one) Your not going to need it to boost the signal but the warmth added by the tube componants will combat the cool and harsh sound of ditigal recordings. Sorry if any of this is redundant and I hope I've helped a little. Good luck and keep up the awesome tunes.

I have an ART mic-preamp that I'm considering selling if anyone's interested.

Thanks, MWR. Phantom power stuff was one of the things I was concerned about. I'd noticed the ART preamps and have definitely considered those, especially as I wasn't sure whether or not the Boss would provide the phantom power. As it appears that it doesn't maybe I should go with the Boss and a preamp. What I'd REALLY like to get is a laptop and the MBox. But that's just WAAAYYY out of my price range right now.

Maybe I should just wait and save up enough to get myself a good hard disk recorder. We'll see.

In terms of the mic thing, I think I've found a company that I REALLY like. Oktava is the name, and they produce great stuff. The main mics I'm looking at are as follows:

Oktava MK319 condenser: large diaphragm, supposedly very warm and incredible for voice, as well as strings (piano, guitar, whatever). Comparable to Neumann models that will cost you 10X as much

Oktava MK012 cardiod condenser: works with just about anything, excelling at miking instruments and drums.

I'd like to get at least one of each, and possible two of the cardiod condensers for guitar miking. Either way, those are great mics.

For anyone looking to get a quality mic cheap, I've yet to find any negative reviews of Oktava. They compare favorably to classic mic's 10 times their price. I'm going Oktava all the way.

if you are going to buy a mic, i would buy a studio projects c1. I ordered mine yesterday and from what ive heard its one of the best mics out there. Its only $200 and rivals $1800. this article has some mp3s of it on an acoustic.

I read that review, it does sound/look like a nice mic, I especially like this quote in the artice. "Writing about music is like dancing about architecture." thought it was quite witty and funny.

Man, I really need to save up some dough, because I have several purchases lined up for myself, including:

-Oktava MK319
-Oktava MK012 (hopefully 2)
-Thinking very seriously about ART TPS tube preamp, maybe the one with digital outputs. At the very least I'll probably go with an ART Tube MP OPL
-Some sort of recording device. Looking at the Boss BR 532. If more cash were around I'd go with something nicer, something I could get more than 128 megs at a time with as I'd like to do some live recordings...
-Godin LGX-SA
-Roland GR-33 synth
-Some sort of combo guitar/synth amp

That's a couple thousand bucks worth of stuff easy, if I go the ebay route... whew. Here's to hoping for a good paying summer job!

Looks like a nice one there, juineaux. That's basically the same sort of press I've read on the Oktava. If I could just figure out if one REALLY excelled on one of vocals or guitar or piano, I'd be set to go, because I'm not about to buy more than two different mics right now...

i wish my lgx had ebony instead of rosewood. i like it a lot more. it still feels great, but ebony just has something about it..

Hey Tico,
the reason I chose the C1 over the oktava and others is because:
http://www.sweetwater.com/forum/showthr ... eadid=3458
These guys are for the most part recording fanatics, and they definatley know there stuff.
Also if you are going to order this stuff, order it through http://www.sweetwater.com
They have the best customer service(most of them have degrees in recording), You can call them up and talk to someone about all the stuff you want to buy and they will try to find you better gear(for less $) for what you do and make sure you arent buying 2 things that dont work together-
I would call them :D
