Hey, could you guys critique the recording I did of Typical Situation, link is above?

Equipment:
Fender GA45SCE Grand Auditorium Acoustic w/ Fishman Classic 4 ACLR
Audix OM5 Vocal Mic
M-Audio Firewire 410 Interface
Recorded with Live Lite 5

Effects:
Compression on Vocals
Acoustic Cascade on Guitar

It was recorded in my dorm room with the door open, so you may hear some yelling in the background... it's my homies, lol.

Thanks in advance!

The vocals are too loud. You may want to turn the volume up on the guitar too. That is if this was recorded as two seperate tracks (instrument and vocals). Things were a little flat in some areas but it can be smoothed out with practice. Also it sounds like your recording enviroment was a bit distracting. Anyways other than that it sounded solid. Good work.

Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": As long as there's, you know, sex and drugs, I can do without the rock and roll.

This sounds like poor mic positioning to me. Try placing the mic about 2 feet way and aimed at your chest. Play with it until you get a decent mix of vocals and guitar. The vocals should be in front but this is a bit overdone.

As far as the performance goes its not that bad, the singing needs a little practice but the guitar was good, no real issues i heard.

Good job, and next time play with mic placement until it sounds good. Its all trial and error.
Do I listen to pop music because I'm miserable or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?
