first song with a couple of friends

Unread post by TylerMoore » Thu Nov 02, 2006 11:00 pm

okay... i've only been playing guitar since may, but i love it a lot. This was the first night our drummer friend was over to play with us, so we decided to do a song together. I normally play acustic guitar, so the subtle techniques for electric guitar are really obscure to me.

anyways, i know this isn't that good, but it was the first time we played together, so i'd definately like some tips from a lot of you guys who play with bands.

its me on the extremely distorted rhythm guitar and vocals, my friend andy plays bass and he plays the lead fills and stuff that we added in afterwards, and my friend evan is on the drums.

PS... the song is Strange, by Built to Spill. I don't know if any of you guys have heard it or not. Evan our drummer really wanted us to do an an alternative sounding song.

Thanks a lot for any comments!

Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": As long as there's, you know, sex and drugs, I can do without the rock and roll.

for only playing since may, you sound pretty good. You keep time very well, good job.

The singers voice is a little weak for the music going on around him. Not that the voice is bad, but he needs to belt it a bit more.

The lead guitar parts are kind of distracting because they dont stay in time so work on that.

Overall good work, you guys seem to play well together in that you dont try to overpower each other. Now that i think about it, your playing is pretty excellent for only playing for 6 months.

Keep it up and post often!
Do I listen to pop music because I'm miserable or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?

thanks for the positive feedback.

i agree with you about the fills getting off rhythm... everytime i hear it the tremelo picked harmonics at the beginning bug me, because they change rhythm too much
