fuck you guys.... I had the decency to actually call the guy up over that and it was settled, a total coincidence. Like I said in the other post, by the time I figured out it was pretty much light lift me up I already had words to it. So all in all I don't really care. I like the song and I like playing it. But ya, totally bad form on my part... Thanks for the destructive criticism.dmbguitar718 wrote:Yes, but he claimed it was an accident...Trippin Hillbilly wrote:I don't know man. This seems like a direct lift from Light Lift Me Up. Even the vocal melody is really similar. Poor form.
If I remember correctly, didn't you do something similar like copy a verse from someone who posted a song here?

Dude, don't let them get you down. Fuck the naysayers. Keep posting, none of us are as original as we think. Consider that there aren't really all that many chord progressions in music and usually they only really become unique as you add other instruments to the mix. But straight acoustic, its already all been done before. Who cares, put your twist on it.
The rest of you, i mean seriously you bring down the whole community when you do this shit, Matt is a contributing member of this community with a lot to share. To push him away is just stupid.

You would think that with a few billion fucking people in this world you might see something similar sometime. But seriously, I really don't feel like wasting my time to get stuff put up for the purpose of feedback if this is what I'm going to get. Tell ya what, if I actually ever publish any of my stuff, I'll write Dave Matthews a fucking letter and get permission to copyright a song that sounds like one they have played once and teased for 12 seconds at a concert once. I'll also give the guy partial credit for the lyrics that we both happened to write on that other song. Fair enough or do I just need to go out back and shoot myself? I have NO problem with someone telling me my shit sounds similar to something, but to be an ass and say something like poor form is stupid in so many ways. You don't know me, who are you to judge me and my music like that?

seriously though, you would quit posting because one person said it was poor form? like, the words poor form would make you completely quit posting? ...i mean come on man. if you're going to write and sing music, you're going to get a lot worse than that throughout your venture. if you get good enough to have critiques hear you, you're going to get a lot lot worse. i think you need to thicken your skin.

It's a matter of taking time to get stuff on here that pisses me off. I've got other places that I post stuff and get good feedback besides the internet. Maybe I just need to grow a pair and not worry about it, but music is probably the one thing in my life at this point that is personal to me and it really gets my blood rushing when some douche bag brings up something that was none of his business and says that I stole lyrics from someone. This is an instance of something that just pisses me of to no end and it's something that is not easy for me just to shrug off. Why watse my time to put my stuff somewere were that has happened now on more then one occasion? I love a lot of your guys feedback and it has helped me a lot, but I seriously have a lot of other mediums that I utilize now, so not posting my stuff here is not a huge deal to me (Nothing against any of you...). This is really something I do not like hearing, especially comming from someone who does not know what the fuck they are talking about....Appfro wrote:seriously though, you would quit posting because one person said it was poor form? like, the words poor form would make you completely quit posting? ...i mean come on man. if you're going to write and sing music, you're going to get a lot worse than that throughout your venture. if you get good enough to have critiques hear you, you're going to get a lot lot worse. i think you need to thicken your skin.

well first of all, i wouldn't say that the ones that said something don't know what they are talking about. two of them are some of the better song writers on here. so you wrote something that sounded like something else...so the fuck what. get on w/ your life, and write the next thing ya know? i mean hell, write something about this incident. doesn't matter. and so someone said poor form. i hate to go back to it, but read some of the critique's statements against artists. you're going to get a ton worse than those two words. you'll get accused ripping stuff off, you'll be told you can't play/sing/perform worth a shit. those things have to bounce off of you. if you let them get to you, it's just going to affect your music. just keep playing, keep writing, keep posting, and people will keep critiquing. i hate to say it again, but seriously, thicken your skin man.mattinbeloit wrote:It's a matter of taking time to get stuff on here that pisses me off. and I plan on going on with my life, yay for e-drama.... I still think that Trippin Hillbilly is an asshole. When he used that choice of words in the post, it was like him sitting there saying "Oh boy, here he goes again, not an original bone in the guys body." If that's what you think, go submit a job app. to Rolling Stones or something.Appfro wrote:well first of all, i wouldn't say that the ones that said something don't know what they are talking about. two of them are some of the better song writers on here. so you wrote something that sounded like something else...so the fuck what. get on w/ your life, and write the next thing ya know? i mean hell, write something about this incident. doesn't matter. and so someone said poor form. i hate to go back to it, but read some of the critique's statements against artists. you're going to get a ton worse than those two words. you'll get accused ripping stuff off, you'll be told you can't play/sing/perform worth a shit. those things have to bounce off of you. if you let them get to you, it's just going to affect your music. just keep playing, keep writing, keep posting, and people will keep critiquing. i hate to say it again, but seriously, thicken your skin man.mattinbeloit wrote:It's a matter of taking time to get stuff on here that pisses me off. Stick with it Matt, and Apps is right about thicker skin, think about people like john mayer, there are some people that absolutely hate him and write terrible things about him. How many times do you think he has had to read that he sucks or he sounds like dave matthews, or he will never be SRV? If you really start listening, it will kill you inside. You are better off ignoring the bad, taking in the good.

Jesus, what the hell is with the personal attacks? Whenever any one else was giving you shit on this forum I remember sticking up for you on a few occasions.
Of the songs that I listened to, I would tell you what I liked and what I didn't, constructively. Apologies if I didn't sugar coat it this time. You need to grow up and grow some thicker skin.
Reason I said Poor form:
I understand that the guitar is similar because as it's been said, everything has been done before but to rip off the vocal melody is just too much. Whether or not you had written the lyrics already, doesn't matter because the fact that you posted 'is this a dave song?' earlier means that you subconciously remember the song which guided you in writing the song.
Anyway, I was just trying to help but whatever. I'm done with you.

Thanks. Bottom line, fuck it I could care less what you think. If you really were trying to help or soemthing you wouldn't of brought up the fact that "didn't you do something similar like copy a verse from someone who posted a song here?". That helped things a lot.... It's not a matter of wanting people to sugar coat my stuff, it's a matter of wanting some people to grow up and stop with little petty remarks like that, it was neither constructive nor helpful.Trippin Hillbilly wrote:Jesus, what the hell is with the personal attacks?
