3 of my band's originals (digital multitrack recordings)

Unread post by TimmyJ4140 » Fri Sep 01, 2006 2:40 am

Finally gave up on the laptop recordings now that we've got our multitrack recorder up and running. Here are three tunes from our rehearsal about a week ago. Quality's still not perfect, but a HUGE improvement from the earlier postings of my band. Mike (my brother) on drums, Shawn on electric guitar, Steve on bass and vocals, and myself on piano/acoustic guitar/vocals.

Bury The Catch - One of Steve's, both music and lyrics. Fun, laid-back groove. I do piano on this one, Steve does vocals, I do harmonies.

Busy - One of mine, both music and lyrics. Kind of a darker tune, both musically and lyrically. I'm still toying with the melody, so my voice isn't quite as strong as it usually is. I'm on acoustic for this one, but still hit the piano during the solo section. Steve throws in some vocals during the chorus.

Did I Sleep? - Shawn's music, Steve's lyrics. Quieter tune, one of our newer ones. I scrap piano completely for this one, and stick to fingerpicking my acoustic.

We've got probably 7 or 8 more tunes, but we're still refining everything, so this'll be it for now. Any comments, on anything (music, lyrics, whatever), are greatly appreciated. I can post up lyrics if anyone wants to have a look. Thanks fellas.

Gotta resurrect R&C.

Bury The Catch - Fun, like you said. I don't know what else to say.

Busy - Voice might need some improvement here. IMO, the strumming on the acoustic is a little hard. I usually prefer a softer strumming, maybe with a thinner pick and looser right hand.

Did I Sleep? - I like the acoustic and voice much more here. This is my favourite!

Drums and bass seem pretty cool in all songs.

Overall, the songs are pretty cool! Great job! I would love to see you guys playing this life!

Did i sleep doesnt work for me, the connection keeps timing out.

Bury the Catch seems to me like a poor attempt at a ben folds five sounding song. I like that you're going for that sound but i think you have a ways to go before you're there. At many points the instruments don't line up just right and it causes some discord. For the most part its good im just comparing it to BF5 hence the harshness.

Stream chord anyone? in the opening to busy... hehe
the vocals are definetly the weakness on this one, too soft you gotta put more behind it. Overall a pretty good tune though. The intentional discord throughout with the acoustic makes it more interesting.

keep it up you guys have mad potential

Bury the Catch - i keeping thinking throughout the entire song it needs to be sped up a little. at the same time, all of the instruments are completely in sync yet. i think it's a good attempt, i just think it needs be tightened up a bit. also, i was too keen on your lead singer.

i liked the guitar licks a lot though. and i really like the jam parts between the choruses and verses.

Busy - i like the intro a lot. drummer sounds like he's more into this one than the last one. just sounds like he's having more fun in this one. i love the time changes. but i think the vocals are really weak on this one. especially in the chorus parts. those notes are strong but they seem to fade off, and i think it would sound better if they were held a bit more, made stronger. it could make it more powerful.

i couldn't get Did I Sleep? to load. i'll try again later.

you guys have potential, i just think some tightening up and perhaps either more vocal practice or perhaps a designated vocalist would strenghten your band as a whole.

Hey, thanks guys. Yeah, we're still tryin' to polish everything off. We've only been playin' together for a little over a month now, so I'm really surprised we play this well together already. We just keep writing new stuff, so we've got about 10 songs now that are fairly finished, but now we need to go and actually refine all of them, tighten them up. Thanks again fellas. Keep 'em comin'.

And yeah, with regards to me and Steve's vocals, we're still reading our lyrics while singing them, they're all new, so we don't even know our own songs yet. lol. We're gettin' there. I'll keep ya posted.
