*** Slip Away Writing Contest ***

Unread post by dmbvideos » Thu Jul 06, 2006 2:45 pm

Hello all,

I think it's time to have a contest.
Below you fill find lyrics to an unwritten song.
I didn't write the lyrics, but a friend did.

I want you to add music and record the song.
Use any instruments / vocals / etc you want.

A panel of independant judges will listen to all entries, and determine the winner.
After the contest, all entries will be hosted for all to hear.

Remember, it's not the quality of your recording, it's the quality of your song.
The best song will convey the emotions of the lyrics perfectly.

Slip Away
Words by Jonathan Goldberg
Copyright © 2002
-----------------------------
I'm waiting for the day when my mother can say
"Son, you've turned out well
You've grown a lot and reached a spot
Where you can be proud to tell
You stumbled on the way but survived each day
And you've risen from your own hell"

I slip away, I slip away
I fade into darkness every day
Life keeps moving when you look away
I slip away

And I'm waiting for the day when my father can say
"Son, you've made me proud.
You've built your own life and you've taken a wife
You've cried and laughed aloud
You've worked real hard to come this far
And honor you have found."

I slip away, I slip away
I fade into darkness every day
Life keeps moving when you look away
I slip away

And I'm waiting for the day when my wife can say
"Honey we've done all right.
A roof overhead and kept the kids fed
Even though we sometimes fight,
We've lasted this long and I know we're strong
Things will turn out right."

I slip away, I slip away
I fade into darkness every day
Life keeps moving when you look away
I slip away

And I'm waiting for the day when my son can say
"Dad, we've turned out fine
Know wrong from right and when to fight
And to value life and time.
I'm glad you were tough, and loved enough
To keep up us straight in line"

I slip away, I slip away
Fade into shadow every day
Time keeps moving when you want to stay
I slip away

So there you have it. What do you win?
The winner will receive any CD they wish from Amazon.com
Keep it under $20, so no box sets. :)

Does this sound like fun?
Let me know what you think of the lyrics.

So don't record it as a country song.
You get to choose the genre.

Cool, I look forward to hearing it.
I really don't know why people think it's a country song.
My friend listens to heavy metal and such.

The deadline is July 21st

P.S. Pezzner, you better enter! :)

Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": As long as there's, you know, sex and drugs, I can do without the rock and roll.

Country music can rule, im definitely in!
Do I listen to pop music because I'm miserable or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?

im digging the idea on the lyrics... the problem is that its a verse and chorus repeating a bunch of times... i think it would have been cool to make one of those time periods into a bridge with a shorter lyrical structure to break up the flow.. i have a guitar part and melody to go with it but it just seemed to drag a bit. good lyrics though

Do whatever you wish.
If you want to shorten it, that's cool.

11:30 is kinda late on a week night.
I just started a full time job and it's a killer.
God, I'm getting old.
