Say Goodbye - FULL BAND!

Unread post by Jenns4Ever9501 » Sat Mar 25, 2006 10:07 pm

Well, my last few posts didn't get much response, so I thought I'd go all out on the next one. Spent all day workin' on this one, one of my all-time favorite DMB songs. My brother did the drums, I did the rest. 7 tracks, as follows:

1. drums
2. shaker/end chimes
3. guitar
4. bass
5. piano
6. strings
7. vocals

Enjoy.

EDIT - I hated to ruin the instrumental with a vocal track, but whatta ya gonna do? I must've done 10 vocal takes, and I'm still not happy with it. The rest though . . .

What else is new?

Naw, I'm just playin. I know how you feel, seems like when i record my vocals, all i can hear is the bad.

The instrumentation is fantastic, you pulled a lillywhite and turned the guitar down! I like it, the piano is great as a lead instrument. You also nailed the mix pretty well, and the strings sound great..Keyboard?

I would turn the vocals down a bit, they are good but they are a little too much in front of everything else. I have always thought youre voice is good and this one is no different, however you do seem to be straining yourself a bit more than usual. I hate to say it but it sounds like you're trying to sing a little like dave. Try singing it keeping your throat totally relaxed the whole time. It will come out much more natural sounding and ultimately better.

You're a great musician man, keep it up!

EDIT - New link in original post, I had the same thoughts as Buffalo and buffjam, they simply motivated me to go back and remix it. As to the vocals . . . blah, I can never record this song properly. Trust me, I sound so much better singing it through a massive P.A. system. I just hate recording my voice. Thanks guys.

P.S. - Ya know, it's my goal to top Whit's "Warehouse" sampler in number of responses to a single recording. lol

yeh it was great, i really enjoyed it. read some of this guy's past posts and ask yourself if it's stuff a fifth grader would say. i don't think so.

Jenns4Ever9501

I found your purevolume (i heard the iris cover)site a while back, it's even on my favorites ...you have a nice voice and nice guitar playing.Your cover of konstantine is great (can you play the piano part too?)

if i could sing as half as good as you i'd play in front of people anytime

and now to the j_clark case

when i saw him say he was a fifth grader i thought
"man i wished i played guitar since fifth grade"

but looking at your posts i find it hard to believe you're not a frustrated/struggling teen muscian like a lot of us here :)

no shame in sucking at guitar ...but no need to say you're in 5th grade

Thanks for the compliments guys. I'm gonna go ahead and attempt a re-take of the vocals and another remix, see if I can't get it a little smoother sounding in terms of vocals, I'll let ya know how it turns out. Thanks.

By the way, I'm debating recording some kind of harmony vocal in there somwhere, but I'm unsure. Of course, I'm a sucker for vocal harmonies, so I'm biased, the song could go either way, it might work better as a solo vocal, just as a guy singing to this girl, so a harmony might not be the way to go, and I'm rambling 'cause I just got outta work and it's 3 in the morning. Let me know what you think. Thanks again.
