recording tips
i need some general tips on on how to get the most out of my equipment
I have m-audio firewire solo, shure m-58 mic and fishman pick up (taylor 110 acoustic). I use either audacity of goldwave.
for example should i record voice and guitar seperately and mix, how about reverb, what other stuff can i do within the audio programs to improve quality, stuff like that.
Thanks, Jay

ABSOLUTELY record guitar and vocals separately, it gives you so much more freedom in terms of mixing. With regards to effects, they can be easily overdone, so play around a little, get a feel for how they work. I usually do a little EQ, a little reverb, a little left/right panning, nothin' too fancy, 'cause again, they be overdone. But yeah, play around a little, you'll figure out what sounds best. Good luck man.

what i do is i have two microphones when i record acoustic... large diaphram condenser at about the 15th fret angled in towards the hole, and a 57 pointing at the 5th fret. duplicate the track from the mic on the 5th fret and put a very small amount of delay on that. sounds pretty phat IMO. as far as vocals i hardly ever use effects for main vocals (maybe some for backups) but i do recommend using compression...
