DIGITAL RECORDING

Unread post by taylor44 » Thu Sep 25, 2003 12:58 pm

Hey everyone ..how are you all ?

I am new to this forum and have been exploring and reading the posts. This is a great site with lots of active and opinionated postings.

I have listened to peoples recordings and have some questions about recording digitally. Basicly, what hardware / software are people using ? I am just looking to record some playing ( I will be using an acoustic electric ) and get it onto my computer and into mp3 format. Nothing fancy at this point. Are these digital recorders from zoom and fostex and boss worth the money ? I am looking for some advice about what I need to get started. I am willing to spend.

Feedback will be appreciated

Thanks

First off...Welcome to the boards :)

For me I just plug my mic and my guitar into my mixer...$50 mixer mind you then plug the mixer into my audigy 2 front port. It sounds damn good too. Most people have little digital recording studios which I'm going to be looking in to getting. So if you are really into recording and stuff a recording studio is worth the money. I use..and most use Cool Edit Pro to record to.

welcome to the boards, too! i don't have a fancy set-up because i spent most of my money on my taylor. :)

my recording quality isn't that great sometimes, but usually i can just plug my taylor into my sound card. sometimes i just mic myself using my crappy lil' mic that i got for 40 dollars and plug into the front through the line-in, then just mess around with it to get rid of the hiss in Coold Edit Pro/Adobe Audition.

i'm sure some other people can help you. i think fatjack has a pretty nice set-up, and possibly fire too. i just try to make the best of what i have. :)

I actualy have a nice studio set up here. I have a guitar rack with a Pod Pro, an XT Alesis Digital REverb (old one, but it's one of the best reverbs I've heard. My dad searched everywhere, and found 2 of them. One for my performance rack) and then I have a Delta Lab Super Time Line, a digital delay, oldie again but a goodie. I have that going into a big good quality speaker. Then I also have it go into my mixer, and then my studio mic (same model that Simon & Garfunkel used during their Central Park concert) into my mixer. I have a Eurorack MX 1604A mixer. Finnaly all that go into my Line In on my computer. Almost everything I have here I got it at a great deal (and I found the store clearing out all Line 6 products. I got it at cost, it is worth 800 bucks, and I got it at 400!!!). My dad knows where to get the good audio equipment. I guess it's good to be a musician who's dad designs speakers for a living, repaired guitar effects and amps in the late 80s/early 90s, and was a sound man for his friend's band for years.

Anyways, if you don't have a pre amp to put your guitar through, or have one in your guitar battery powered, it's not going to sound good going through a mixer. It will be pretty bad quality

Then, for recording, I use Cool Edit Pro 2.0 (great for muti tracking, and very good effects and tweaking options) . I got a crack from my bro for the trial version, it makes it into full. The one thing is, they have been bought by another company, and updated it. You can't get Cool Edit Pro 2.0 off the main site now. If you can find a trial version of Cool Edit Pro 2.0 (has to be that version), then I can give you the crack.

Tisk. Tisk. Discussion of pirated software is frowned upon here...

I really like my Eurotrack MX 1694A more than the UB502.
