does that matter? if their opinion of his performance should be the same regardless
OOOOOHHHH. Is this payback?
no... its a inquiry as to why it matters
I will humor you for a little bit.
" it's too choppy" How would you know that if you neevr heard the song. Wilco is a very progreesive band that does not follow the typical structure of most pop songs.
well then, im guessing that the person wont like Wilco either.
a person's opinion is an their opinion, regardless of what influences it, and i think actually having never heard Wilco will make a person's opinion about a cover unbaised and probably more honest.

Wow. Contradiction.
If you had noticed I put a smiley next to that quote. (the one referring to if they even knew who Wilco was) And secondly, as someone who loves the song, I thought it was a great
COVER. Which goes into the next item. How do you rate/critique a cover without knowing what the original sounds like?

you critique in the same way you would critique any other song, you listen to it
it doesn't matter if its a cover. someone can still dislike the song or just think that the performance in general was bad
now, you would probably need to hear the cover if the person asked "how much does my cover sound like the original?" but since he didn't, its not necessary at all
and where was the contradiction?

Wow. A lot happens in 8 hours. If anyone is interested in legally hearing the original Wilco version, you can go to
http://www.wilcoworld.net/ghost/index.html
open up the quicktime player, and scroll down to the song. This is one badass album. I recommend giving the whole thing a listen. I generally start at Muzzle of Bees cause the song before it is pretty repetative.
