Me building a song from scratch live "Fu-Gee-La Cover

Unread post by superman0710 » Thu Feb 03, 2005 11:35 pm

it's a "cover" of the fugees - "fu-gee-la (refugee camp remix)"

i say "cover" becuase i threw together parts of it and improvised over it.

This was done using my fender squier strat and a LINE6 DL-4 Delay modeler (which i used to overdub live)

all this was done live and in 1 take by me ALONE. I completely build the song from the very scratch ( including simulating drums by tapping on my guitar and bass simulations by messing with my pickup settings )

The jam's almost 10 minutes long so be patient as it builds.

nonetheless, enjoy! :)
go ahead, nod your head while you listen, no one's watching ;)

i'm thinking about doing this live ( a one man jam session )
and obviously my soloing will be cleaner :o

I thought it was pretty cool. The first minute should be cut out IMO, a little too slow for me. But after that I really enjoyed it.

I'm agreeing with speen, little bit tedious at the beginning, but good sound overall! I like how relaxed it sounds, great to just sit around and chill to. *adds to mp3 player*

It is very slow to build. Way too repetive for me. No real exciting points, just like 10 minutes of that same two note bass line with some OK lead riffs over it.

I like slow intros like this one. Don't take out the whole thing, even if you can get away with cutting it live. It's good to keep people in suspense. Never underestimate anticipation. As for the rest of the piece, great improvization, good sound. Two picks up.

Anyway, is the "LINE6 DL-4 Delay modeler" the same thing Tim Reynolds uses when he loops things in real time? I'm trying to acheive this effect with my cello and/or possibly multiple inputs so that I can perform the things I record live (with all of my instruments). Also, about how much does one of those cost?

Thanks for any info,
Ben
