i doubt it... and you dont need a mixer, some mixers dont even have phantom capabilities... you can also look into an external phantom power suppy
i would reccommend getting a decent mixer with 4 to 8 mic inputs.. it will have mic pres and probably phantom power... check out mackies
Come on guys...
A MIC pre-amp without phantom power...I've never heard of one.
I repeat: the pre-amps included on cheap mixers and even pricier ones don't hold a candle to stand aolone MIC pre-amps.
How many instruments/vocals will you be recording simultaneously? Just tell me that much and I tell you exactly what to get.

i would never buy a condenser under about 200 bucks... expecially when its 2 for 100
and i would never buy a piece of musical gear made by the same company that makes orvs

Actually the quality of current $100 studio condensers is incredible. I just bought an M-Audio Nova and it's really nicely made and sounds quite nice.
It all starts with the mic and the preamp though so Joe's advice is still sound.
Anyway you're gonna have to give me specifics as to exactly what you record now and what you will be recording down the road. The worst thing is to buy gear and figure out a couple months later that it's not enough.
I also need a price range. Just PM me.

Mike, do you think you could give us a sample of what the M-Audio Nova sounds like? I'm sure lots of people are interested on what it would sound like. Brock could post it in the sticky on the top of this forum.

Of course.
I was planning on doing a sample straight with no editing and then one with compression, reverb, e.q. etc. basically anything I would add normally. Maybe do a stereo recording. I think this will shed some light on how important basic editing is.
