Thanks guys! The compliments mean a lot, especially from firedancer86 and Trippin. Both of you guys did a great #41 cover and you guys actually inspired me to initially record this and then improve on it. Here is what I'm going to consider my final version. It's by no means great but I'm actually pretty happy with it:
#41_Final
Anyway, it's certainly an improvement over the first version. I think I played the intro pretty decent and better incorporated the outro chords. The recording is much better too.
Regarding my voice: firedancer86 - I totally know what you mean about trying to get a more "raspy" sound. Well, I tried a number of times and wasn't happy with the results. It's certainly something you can't force. I've come to terms with the fact that my voice is what is and I'm okay with that. Perhaps it will develop some over time.
Anyway, take a listen and let me know what you all think. Thanks again for all the advice. It really helped!
My First Recording: #41
Wow...
Hi Roastbeef,
So I listened to all your songs - even all 3 versions of #41 - and I just want to say that I'm impressed! That last version of #41 is amazing - I especially liked the outro, although you strummed through it a little harder than Dave does.
Great guitar playing on Trippin' Billies - I still have such a hard time with that one! And Grey Street is also very good - similar guitar playing style as Billies so I'll also find that one tough to play. What I find hard is the constant switching between 1st and 2nd fingers to 3rd and 4th fingers - can't seem to do it smoothly.
Anyway, you have a good voice when you let it come out naturally, so don't shy away anymore! I personally have had no voice training or anything, but people here on the board have recommended breathing properly and letting your voice come from deep down rather than from your throat. I've found these tips to be invaluable! Singing is like playing an instrument, it takes practice and you need to concentrate on it. So keep going, man, I think you've totally got it!

yeah, you can't force your voice, be natural with some extra effort on certain parts of these song...I never took lessons...guitar or vocals...I don't think you need em'...you don't seem to have problems keeping a steady note though...that can get me sometimes...that used to be a BIG problem when I was younger...must be puberty trying to get one over on me
keep it up
