MUST READ>CONTEST INFORMATION

Unread post by firedancer86 » Mon Jun 23, 2003 8:38 pm

Allow me to reiterate...sure, go ahead and invite your band along, but this is really for guitar...nobody wins because of their band...the previous contest had NO BAND...I think it is best for everyone to KEEP IT LIGHT...do whatever you want, but please try to keep it simple...THIS IS NOT A CONTEST OF THE MIXERS OR OF THE BANDS HERE...it is a fun contest of YOUR talent...not your bands...nothing harsh meant, but that is the only way to put i...post whatever yoyu like, but if your cover sounds better than anothers by way of band...few people will vote for you...so it in your best interest to flaunt YOUR GUITAR ABILITY...not show off your band...that is not meant for anyone in particular, but from some clips I hear, and from what i am told via PM/AIM, many are at least concidering the band approach...I do believe that the NEXT CONTEST will be taken down a notch with the rules of "do whatever you want within the abilities of a guitar/vocals"...i.e. my Dreaming Tree cover...that is pushing it, and I would never enter that into a contest...regardless, be conciensious of others and display YOUR ability...not a friends ;)

You took the courtesy to PM me, but I want to say publically in reponse, that I recorded all the tracks myself. I'm flattered that you thought otherwise.

cool man ;)

since you want to bring it public...

good for you, but I wanted to let you know privately that it is going to scare people off...you are very amazing (pats on back), but a one man superband doesn't exactly fit the bill either sir

no opps's...we just might have to make different categories for voting...no problems...I have just recieved alot of trios and bands mp3's...everything is cool on my end...not trying to put anybody out, but to the new(er) comers, last contest had some people upset over using effects...do what you want...nothing is being taken away from your peice, but i think it would be a good rule for next time to be what you can do with a guitar and vocals...

I agree...

Unread post by Daroou » Wed Jun 25, 2003 10:22 am

I agree that for this contest, we should be comparing raw guitar-playing talent. When I made my cover, I didn't use multiple tracks or any special effects. I pressed record on Sound Forge and recorded the song and my singing in one shot on one track with absolutely no modifications. I thought that would be the most fair thing to do.

The way I see it, it should be like as if you were playing a concert, and you just stepped out with your acoustic, sat down on a stool and played the song solo for everyone. No retakes, no multiple tracks, just raw playing.

That's my two cents, not hoping to start anything here

I agree with you to some extent, but i think people can use their judgement to compare fairly...I think kinda like I did with The Dreaming Tree, in the sense that your tool should be guitar (with vocals if you like), but I think if you wanna add some stuff, then you can...it is best that everyone just uses decernment and judement and we all have a little fun  ...that is just my opinion...and you all know how much that is worth

Yeah, that's true...

Alright, I do agree that it's all for fun, and I am very anxious to hear people play The Stone to the best of their abilities - including the mixing and playing with a band. But I'm most anxious to hear pure raw guitar playing talent, that's just my personal preference :)
