Grey Street [UPDATE - New 12 String Version]
Grey Street [UPDATE - New 12 String Version]
Hey all - haven't recorded anything in a while and wanted to post something here. Here's a version of Grey Street I did some time ago. The quality is pretty bad and there's some really cheezy chorus and reverb filters applied to it, but let me know what you think. I hope to do another version with the 12 string and maybe add a 6 string improv track but lemme know how I can improve it based on this one:
Grey Street
Enjoy!

I don't mind the reverb so much, but the reverb so much, but yes, the chorus is really cheezy
The guitar work is grear; you keep great time and don't miss a note. And the vocals, wow, you really put yourself out there on those screams, good stuff. Next time, can you make sound less like an aquarium though?

wow
yeah, deffinitely come out of the water for the next one man
now...really cool job man...the guitar is right on (hard song) and the vocal seem even better than usual...so what are you using that is giving you the watered down sound?

Just some chorus and reverb filters in Cool Edit Pro. I went ahead and cleaned up the original source sans the cheezy "aquarium" sound. This is the same recording, but it's a little more tolerable without the effects:firedancer86 wrote:...so what are you using that is giving you the watered down sound?

I should've put this version up initially. Lemme know what you think. Any criticism before I re-record with the 12 string? Thanks!
Very nice!
Excellent job, man! Your guitar playing is dead on. When I first looked at the tabs for this one, I remember thinking "Oh, this is one of the easier ones", but when I tried to play it, I realized that keeping the rythm was the hardest part.
Your voice is great too! Keep it up, man.

Isn't that the case with any Dave song?Daroou wrote:...but when I tried to play it, I realized that keeping the rythm was the hardest part.

Very true! That's what I find so cool about his playing - not only is his left-hand fingering often difficult (crazy 5 to 6-fret stretches!) but his right-hand strumming and muting is also quite complex! It makes for a very interesting and unique soundRoastbeef wrote:Isn't that the case with any Dave song?

Definitely can't forget the muting, thats one of the big factors that make him so unique.Daroou wrote:Very true! Hey all - I went ahead and re-recorded this with the twelve string. The recording quality is much better than the last ones, and the twelve string sounds real nice on it. I'm actually pretty happy with the vocals as well. Lemme know what you all think. Criticism, as always, is welcome:

hey...great job. the only problem i had was i think dave plays it a little faster, so the pace of the song was slow. this might've been intentional or unintentional, i'm not sure, and i may be wrong, and that could be a possibility too. hehe. otherwise, it's a tough song to sing, so great stab at the vocals.
