the white stripes - 'we are going to be friends'

Unread post by Matty Boom » Thu Oct 28, 2004 4:11 pm

i thought i'd do a full song this time since everyone was so kind when i put up a cover the other day, so hopefully i didn't start to suck in between then and now

anyways, it's the white stripes, 'we are going to be friends' .. i believe he originally plays it in G, but i wanted to change it up a bit, so i played it in E

here are the lyrics:

Fall is here, hear the yell
back to school, ring the bell
brand new shoes, walking blues
climb the fence, books and pens
I can tell that we're going to be friends

Walk with me, Suzy Lee
through the park and by the tree
we will rest upon the ground
and look at all the bugs we found
then safely walk to school
without a sound

Well here we are, no one else
we walked to school all by ourselves
there's dirt on our uniforms
from chasing all the ants and worms
we clean up and now its time to learn

Numbers, letters, learn to spell
nouns, and books, and show and tell
at playtime we will throw the ball
back to class, through the hall
teacher marks our height
against the wall

And we don't notice any time pass
we don't notice anything
we sit side by side in every class
teacher thinks that I sound funny
but she likes the way you sing

Tonight I'll dream while in my bed
when silly thoughts go through my head
about the bugs and alphabet
and when I wake tomorrow I'll bet
that you and I will walk together again
cause I can tell that we're going to be friends

I got the heads up on this thread, damn good cover. I don't know if this is a compliment or not but you sound exactly like Jack White. Keep it going Matty.

Yeah it was
Anywho, nice work Matty my man. I am trying to be quiet cuz I'm at home now and my mom has to be at work at 7:15 tomorrow morning. Soooo, I had the volume down kinda low and I could just hear the vocals. You have improved tremendously since I have last heard you. Your vocals sounded like you were really into the song, nice job. And you carried the melody of the song with your vocals extremely well.

Great job. I don't have much advice to give. It sounds like your coming along fine.
I would like to hear something with more sustained melody. These recent covers show how much you've improved but they don't tell the whole story. Try something that isn't so "safe" so we can get an idea of where you having problems.

What an interesting song. Never heard it before. But you did a great job. Not very much to critique as MWR said, so...Good job.

it's just a normal I IV V progression, and he plays it in G normally, so he is playing G, C, D and for the bridge, he throws an A in there....i played it in E, so drop all that a step and a half (E, A, B, and F#)
