I think people are taken aback by it because it sounds really "different." I think it's badass...very unique. The recording sounds incredible.

People might just need to listen to it a time or two more. I think it sounds great.

HAHA, exact some song came to mind.. it does sounds like something that belongs on that "Look Into The Eye" album by David Byrne.

DISCLAIM: Don't flame me for just replying like he asked

Technical notes.. the rythme guitar on the left sounds like trash :-p sounds like a recording that wasn't well-advised by the engineer.. I guess maybe that is an equipment issue.. but then the guitar that plays the outro has better tone that other one.. *shrug* my opinion is that the guitar on the left needs work. I think maybe it needs some slight (possibly pre any exisiting) reverb to give it some body..

I think there is too many instrument movement. Like the guitar at the end coming in from the left to the middle makes sense but it makes it sound slightly hoaky 'cause it slides over linearly and not naturally.. I would actually leave it off to the left.. who cares if the song ends slightly to the left?

The break around 1:30 is clunky.. but that'd be a rerecord.. so that stays I suppose.. The drummer in general has a wierd feel for time.. his diddling on the snare seems like it wants to have something to do with time but then not..

I think the chorus needs less of the strumming guitar.. bring that down some.. if the balance is odd, put something in doing whole notes chords. The *whatever* at 3:10 is not cute :-p It is jarring. Maybe if it was down in the background more.

Again, the guitar on the left that comes to the middle has bad tone.. sounds kinda like a straight feed from a single-coil pickup guitar.. needs some amp modeling or something..

Again, sorry if you take any offense to the above.. I just have an opinion and you asked for it.. take it for what it is worth to you.. There's very little musical recordings out there that I don't go "this shoulda been this way" or "that sounds a little bad" so take no offense.. if anything, take it as compliment

I'm greatful for everyone's comments...especially the in-depth long ones that keep me yearning for a real producer. Seriously, thanks.
