I'll do tripping billies, or lover lay down. Doesn't matter.

I think this is an awsome idea.

WHat the hell????

What is up with all these covers with no singing?! Thats friggin half the challenge...thats pathetic that people dont want to sing and play...give me a break, i friggin did it...it wasnt all that great and I got criticized and nothing happened to me. Stop being a bunch of pansies and sing and play...If you cant do it period, well, in my opinion your not as talented as the other and you shouldnt even have a shot at this contest because who wants to hear just guitar over guitar and singing?...frankly that wouldnt even be fair to give you a vote over the next guy who "does" sing. I'm sure half of you that arent singing are good singers just too cowardly to put yourself on the line so you can sit here and criticize others and they will have nothing on you...I admire winston for what he did, and he inspired me so just let it go and you will get better...good luck to all the rest of the people though! peace

no need to get worked up...orinally this idea was simply based on guitar technique only anyways, not just cover quality...

some hints for contestants

Unread post by PNP padowan » Wed Nov 20, 2002 9:39 pm

i'm not sure about everyone else, but i personally think a warehouse with stop time or passion is better than just warehouse, two step with improv intro is better than just two step, tripping billies isn't tripping billies without nature intro, and what's minaret's without some crazy ass scatting? additional stuff like outro's, improv lyrics, additional parts, solos, and other extra cool stuff is sooo much better than just a normal read the tabs/music learn it nicely and spit it back out version...maybe an idea

yeah we have cable so it downloaded in minutes. I'm fure there's other stuff out there. Goldwave mabye?

Anyway, I don't think there's a problem with not singing the song. However, you must get more points for singing it so therefore you have a better chance of winning. If you sound like a dying Elk than maybe you won't get many extra points for singing. But you shouldn't lose points for not singing. It just be a significant addition of points if you do sing.

I guess I'll sing too, fuck it - heh I know I'm not very good so I'll be prepared for criticism. I still have no idea what tune I'm doing though
good, and you?

with multitracking, it really takes no talent to sing along with it because you can record the guitar track and then sing over it...

True. but there it does take talent to be able to sing well. It'll be easier to just let us do what we want with the song. I think more points should be awarded to ones that sing and play it in what shot as opposed to just playing the guitar part. but also if you nice lead tracks are combined with the main guitar part should be worth more than just the rhythm part. am making sense here? I still don't what the hell I'm gonna do.

I recorded a bunch of different songs and listened to see which ones sounded good. I did Captain in the end I liked how it sounded. I just love the chords in that song. That might be one I'll be doing. But then there's Satellite and Recently and oh #41 Dang! drawing board

are you multitracking? i was thinkin about doing that, but i'd get carried away and have four guitar parts going...lol...with the minarets i was GOIN to do, i had some cool breaks away from the normal part (cause i remember the person who started the idea said points were based on the originality of the cover) and i was gonna have some sort of solo going, and then quietly in the background have a fast version of blue water going, mixing the guitar parts and the vocals...ahh it would be tight as shit...i wish

whoa. sounds interesting. I tried once doing the guitar and vocals in one go (one track) but I can't sing that loud that well so it kinda got drowned out by the guitar. So I then I did the two tracks separately and it sounded better.
